Summer holidays preparation advice?

Hi all,

I was wondering, what topics/chapters do you guys recommend looking over during the summer holidays in preparation for Unit 3 Chemistry? Should we look over any concepts from Units 1/2?

Any advice/suggestions are appreciated!

Hi,

I would say you have to revise Stoich. Honestly, that is the be all and end all of Chemistry.

If you are a weaker student that flourishes with a teacher, then probably just look over AoS2. It is pretty much all just rote learning. However, if you are feeling adventurous, perhaps read over the Analytical Instruments that is in AoS1. It may be a bit different, but I think it is actually some of the more interesting concepts covered in VCE Chem.

Kudos to you for getting ahead.

Question: Would you guys recommend writing summary notes for chemistry using a variety of sources including textbook, study guides, tsfx notes etc for the whole course, given the time restraints with other subjects as well in year 12? Also what are people's views on typing summary notes rather than writing them for better time efficiency?

I found the Jump Start Chemistry book pretty helpful...

Go over sources (e.g. biogas, biodiesel, fossil fuels). Not a lot of chemistry there but there's a lot to memorise for the end of the year (i.e. what are the advantages/disadvantages of each energy source, which ones are renewable etc etc). Not hard to learn and good to have it all memorised early so you're not stressing come exam time :)
