Hi!
This is a post to gauge some interest for a Further Mathematics Head-start Program that I'll be running in 2015 for anyone interested. The location for it will either be in the city if I can arrange it, or Northern suburbs and depending on the interest, I may hold more than just a single session.
Who am I?
So, basically I am a VCE graduate from 2012 that did extremely well in Further, with a perfect score of 50. I being strange, decided to do all modules and select the easiest 3 modules which I completed on my examination. This means that I am well versed in all the modules that are on the study design and competent enough to teach you all the little tricks and difficulties that you may encounter in the Further
What is involved?
In January, I plan to run a 7 day course in the city or in the northern suburbs in a lecture/class like environment where I will teach you a module per day. Starting on a Friday. I plan to go through a module from 9-2 per day, with the core on Friday and Module 1 on Saturday, as shown below
Starting on a random Friday in January, most likely mid January I will be teaching the following
Friday - Core
Saturday - Module 1 - Number Patterns
Sunday - Module 2 - Trigonometry and Geometry
Monday - Module 3 - Linear Relations
Tuesday Module 4 - Business Related Mathematics
Wednesday Module 5 - Network and Decision Related Mathematics
Thursday Module 6 - Matrices
Thus, for the modules you are aware you are completing, you will attend on 4 of the 7 days.
Why am I different to all those other tutors out there?
What is special about me, is that I have developed programs for you CAS CX, and am currently working on a set of software on the Class pad, however I am trying to obtain a copy of a professional computer software that will allow me to code a program for your calculator, that makes your life much simpler. These programs are allowed on the examination, and simply require the input of information you are given to churn out your answers.
In addition, I cover many smaller topics that the textbooks do not acknowledge and have formulas for questions on the examination that are not in the textbook that are required for the examination.
What is my history as a tutor
So I normally teach Further Mathematics and Mathematical Methods. The study scores of most of my yearly students have ranged from low 40's to mid 45's for Further. This means that they have done incredibly well, and made very few mistakes on the examination. I have undertaken SWOTVAC students which I have taught for 1-2 weeks who's Further Mathematical capabilities have been limited or non existent, and from a few sessions give them an understanding of the modules. These students that I have taught have received study scores from 33-38. This is the reason why I prefer to run these sessions at the start of the year, as it would mean that it would allow the whole year for practising what I have taught.
What comes with the Headstart Program
So what comes with the Headstart Program is a book that I am currently in the process of re-writing. Due to a computer hardware problem, the majority of my 200+ page book that I was planning to release was corrupted and I am rewriting it and updating it from about 30% of what I was able to retrieve from a computer specialist.
This book is designed to teach you and can be used as a theory book for the examination. It will have an index, glossary and table of contents similar to a regular textbook. This Theory book, however will be designed from my experiences from doing past examinations and will cover all that comes up on you examination. It will have all the little tricks and traps that you may encounter.
What does it cost you?
So ideally it would cost you nothing as the title mentions.
It will cost you the transport fee of getting to where I teach the class, and a small donation to cover the price of printing all the notes. This is merely because I am not made of paper, and because paper grows on trees, it would be good to plant a couple of trees to cover the paper I am printing off for you guys. In light of this, the cost of the notes should be 5-10$ which is quite cheap for a 4 day, 5 hour lecture.
For the Financially disadvantaged kids, I will be printing the notes free of cost. If you have a Health Care Card from Family Tax Benefit / Low Income Health Care Card, just show me and the notes are free of charge!
What is expected of you?
So, what you need to bring is yourself, your CAS CX and your full attention. Phones are allowed, but I would prefer if you kept it on the low.

. I don't mind it, as long as you are paying attention to what I am saying.
I also hope that you can give me feedback on my teaching style. I will be implementing a more interactive and technology related class that I have never tried before. It would be great if you guys would be able to tell me if you liked it, and whether it helped you learn. This is just to improve the class for the future.
Why am I doing this?
I am not entirely sure why I am doing this. Helping people has always been one of my aspirations and my motivations to do well , and I guess my experiences in the past of not being able to go to lectures, and the fact that I have helped people who are financially disadvantaged from experiences at Red Cross and from meeting people at both uni and at work has kind of pushed me in this direction to provide a class for those who are interested in doing well for their future and give the disadadvantaged the advantage that I believe all VCE Students should have.
Why in January?
As aforementioned, I lost the data for my book. Thus, as a result I have had to push this back to January. I was planning to run it in December and January, but my notes will not be ready before then.
So, if you are hoping to come just post, and personal message me so that I can get a list so I know how much notes to print and so forth when the time comes.
