mixing around your course units

In computer science there's an IBL stream course map showing the recommended units for IBL students. I'm a mid-year entry student so I've had to mix things up a bit to make it all work (also I should have done fit1004 database management this semester but didn't want to). Is it okay to not go with the course map as long as you're fulfilling core units and prereqs etc, or should I be going and talking to course advisers. I'm a little scared that they won't let me do things the way I want, possibly resulting in having to take some units in caulfield instead of clayton due to being at different campuses in different semesters. Basically I want to know whether I should ask for permission or forgiveness. Cheers
