rate determining step

The rate determining step of a reaction mechanism is the one that:

A occurs most rapidly.
B Occurs most slowly.
C gives out the most energy.
D gives out the least energy.

Well in a multi-step process, the rate determining step is the slowest elementary step.

More analogies: no matter how fast you shop at a supermarket the rate determining step is the amount of time you spend at the checkout lining up. Or, no matter how fast you drive down a certain road with a red traffic light somewhere - the rate determining step is the time you wait at the traffic lights when it's red.
