Engineering through Science or Commerce?

I've been trying to figure this out for a while. I would like do a Masters in Mechanical Engineering in either Science or Commerce with something else in Mathematics & Statistics. Can you Major Math & Stats through Commerce while getting a masters in engineering and a degree in say finance? or isn't it possible? What are my options? also what would be the benefits in choosing either course? Im just a bit confused and preferences close tomorrow!
 thanks in advance!

You can't major in Maths and Stats in the Commerce degree, but you can complete a concurrent diploma in Mathematical Sciences whilst doing Commerce which is the equivalent of a major in Maths and Stats. You can however do Commerce, choose one of the majors except Accounting and Actuarial Studies, and do Engineering subjects during your degree to be able to do a Masters in Engineering.

If you do a major in Maths and Stats in Science you can't do a Masters in Engineering. Only majoring in one of the engineering majors can get you into the Masters of Eng. (please correct me if I'm wrong Science students)

I would recommend that you look around the Commerce and Science websites and see what interests you the most.http://www.bsc.unimelb.edu.au/  http://bcom.unimelb.edu.au/

Though is it possible to do all three? E.g. major in finance, engineering sequence to masters, and a diploma in maths & science?

Yes it's possible but since a diploma is normally 4-8 extra subjects during your undergraduate degree you would either have to overload in some semesters(generally a bad idea) or take the extra year to complete your undergrad.

In order to be eligible to do Masters of Engineering with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree you should do Mechanical Systems sequence in BCom, e.g. Calc 1, Calc 2, Linear Algebra, & ESD2 in first year whilst doing Intro Micro, Intro Micro, and QM1, etc. Refer to http://www.eng.unimelb.edu.au/study/undergraduate/mechanical.html

Also, it will take you 4 years to complete the BCom alongside the Concurrent Diploma in Mathematical Sciences.
