TSFX weekly tuition or local weekly tutor?

Hi guys!  :D

Has anyone done the TSFX weekly tuition classes? I'm having trouble deciding whether it is worth it for Chemistry at $1300+ for the full year. Its only 22 weeks and 2 hours every week and i'm not sure how large the class is but their lectures have been amazing!

But i found a local tutor (who received 99+ ATAR and has years of experience) only working with a group of 5 at maximum, for $50 per week for two hours. Benefits of this are not having to take public transport getting to the city and back, so more cost and time efficient for me as it is 10 minutes drive from my house.

Though the latter would probably end up costing more in the long run (depending on how fast the coursework takes to go through) and i don't know if it will be as good as TSFX....

Thoughts anyone? Trouble deciding what to do :(

The thing about weekly tuition classes is that they aren't very focussed on individuals but rather as a group. If you learn best by asking lots of questions and proceeding at your own pace then I wouldn't recommend weekly classes from TSFX. I attended the Biology masterclasses last year and I have to admit, it didn't really help. I can't speak for other subjects but generally speaking, the trip itself takes quite a bit of time especially if you don't live near the City. And if you prefer individualistic feedback based on YOUR performance, then private tuition may be the best option especially because your tutor can tailor the lessons to suit your weaknesses/strengths.

Ofcourse, I'm not trying to paint a bad image of the weekly classes - it does have its benefits like the exam booklets which are given (btw you can still purchase them online from the actual companies), you review the coursework so the repetition allows you to grasp the content, and you do practice questions in class.

If you are considering biology masterclasses, I just have to add that the notes are exactly the same as the headstart and revision notes ("summer and winter" school notes).

Then again, it does depend on your preferences but I was really curious to experiment for myself and personally, i didn't find it helpful.

As for your last point, TSFX overall is extremely helpful. However sometimes it can be (no offense) overrated especially because sometimes, they don't get the time to actually cover the entire course. Private tution depending on the quality of your tutor may or not be better than TSFX in terms of how much you actually understand/improve.

Weekly tutor hands down. You should be able to find someone who would do one on one tutoring as well. If you get the right tutor it's about 1000x better than TSFX

Its a good half an hour to take the train there and then the tram and it just sounds so tiresome. I think the weekly tutoring would be more beneficial for me due to being a small group and having the opportunity to ask questions and get individualistic feedback. Though being able to slow down the work pace when need be is probably what steers me closer to weekly tutoring with a local tutor.

Thanks so much for the advice, you helped make my decision very clear. :)

Thanks, so glad to know its worth paying that bit extra for a tutor rather than going to the classes! :)
