Thank you everyone. So if I get below 99 will extra curricular things like sport and music help me get in? Is there any thing else I can do to improve my chance of getting in?

Note that ANU doesn't give bonus points to programs with ATAR cut-offs above 98, so you can't claim points such as for Grade 8 AMEB, or above 35 SS for various subjects.
It seems that they do consider Science/Asian Studies streams applications on a case-by-case basis (so there's still a chance if you get below 99), and if you look at the application form on their website, they ask if you have any special achievements (such as Olympiads/competitions) - so science-related extracurricular activities could potentially help.
Arts might be a bit different in its selection process since it only asks for basic information in the application - might be best to contact them if you're considering this stream.

How much lower than 99 can you go? I'm probably pushing for a 98, but I've got NYSF/3rd round Tuckwell (didn't make it :/) under my belt but I don't know if that will be enough...
