I tried to cover a fair bit of unit 3 beforehand but i think I work better when i learn thing with the class. Plus i don't want to end up learning stuff i will just forget so maybe just AOS1. That should give me a good head start. What textbook are you using?

dont worry about doing too much psych stuff over the holidays !
if you do, dont go past the first area of study !
there are a few kinks and ways to answer questions and things, and stuff that sounds similiar but is actually different, and its just one of those subjects where if you go with the pace of the class (especially as a year 11 doing it as an accelerated 3/4) you will be all good
if you are super keen to go ahead then i would focus on research methods over the summer holidays !! if you have time and energy after that, then go through the areas of study in the order they appear in the textbook
good luck class of '15

I got the A+ notes for unit 3 ( waste of money)  and a few prac exams. I also got a friends copy of grivas whilst i got oxford. Just from looking through Grivas, i think i have enough resources since Grivas is so thick and detailed when compared to oxford. A+ notes are really overrated and i don't recommend them at all. Better to just print of some notes from AN then buy A+ notes.

Really? I was actually looking to buy the A+ notes as I want something that has condensed information.

Have a flick through them at the book store and see if it is too your liking. I personally felt no need for them at all so it was a real waste for me.

Hey there!
Come to Connect Education Headstart classes! I went to Connect when I was doing Psychology and having their tips really saved me a lot of time during the semester. I knew exactly what I was looking out for and how to answer questions right from the word go.  You will get some awesome notes to go with the class and we will be covering Research Methods and Unit 3 Area of Study 1: Mind, Brain and Body. We will focus on learning the content and then applying it directly to exam questions so that two things happen. Firstly, you learn and consolidate the information through application. Secondly, you have learnt how to approach exam questions and how to avoid the common pitfalls that lose you marks!

This year, I will be running the class - so email me if you want a DISCOUNT CODE.

I'd agree that the A+ notes for Psychology are near worthless (that's coming from experience). You are better off reading the textbook a few times and making sure you understand the information and how it might be applied in real life.

Having completed Psych 3+4, this is some of my advice:

- January is a great time to get a head start on content and start familiarizing yourself with AOS 1. That way, when your teacher starts teaching you the content in class, you won't just be learning it for the first time, but revising and consolidating it in your memory

- Print out the study design. Not just for Psych, but for all your subjects! Paste it in your Psych folder or wherever you know you'll look when making you notes. It is crucial that you tailor your notes to the dot points on the study design as that is what VCAA can examine you on at the end of the year. Turn it into a checklist so you can tick off each dot point once you're confident you understand the area

- Start finding practice exams/ print out exams. I know you may think it is ridiculously early to even think about exams, but use this holiday period to search for resources and print them out. You don't want to waste valuable revision time trawling the internet for free practice exams, or standing next to the printer waiting for them to come out. Print them out at the start of the year and put them aside until you're ready to attempt them (Preferably after you finish each AOS!)

- Research methods is a critical area and you must ensure you understand it completely. It is a significant proportion of the exam and can be a great way for you to excel further than other students who don't apply it as well. I recommend going to a head start lecture so you can hear an assessor/experienced teacher/past student explain the different areas in research methods as sometimes text books may not be clear enough

That's just a few of the things I think will really benefit you later on in the year, and can be achieved before school starts

Feel free to PM for any questions, or even resources such as DIGITAL COPIES OF EXAMS or study guides and lecture notes  :)

I don't know how useful this is going to be for Psychology 3/4 students this year but:

I didn't use the textbook a lot when I was studying Psychology - seriously touched the book about 4 times in total throughout the year. Obviously, for some of you the textbook is really useful and comprehensive and whatnot but looking at fat books makes me want to hit my head against a wall and I'm sure some of you feel me too when I say that.

I went to TSFX and it really depends on how well you use their material, BUT TSFX Psychology IS A GOD. I'm a bit iffy about TSFX in terms of the other subjects - but I found Psych there extremely helpful and their notes are just perf. If you know everything in their notes and you've got Practice Exams - you're pretty much set.

P.S. Closer to Exams: Not even lying, I did 4 VCAA exams and got 45. I recommend you do all the VCAA ones - I didn't and I regret it to this day.
