How hard is a 40 raw?

Hi, I'm undertaking business 3/4 and I'd like to know how hard is it to get a 40 raw?

Last year was really easy, and my marks were around 90% average, but I hear that 3/4 is much harder than 1/2. AND, I have a really, really bad teacher who doesn't know how to teach.

Also, in regards to answering questions, where is the line between writing too properly (as in full, long sentences) and writing that is too straight-forward. I often find it challenging to keep my answers succinct while writing eloquently.

Thanks!

A friend of mine got 50 in Business Management (Unit 3/4, in Year 11), he told me that he studied 3 hours a night for it. He also said that Unit 1/2 and 3/4 are separate, and therefore results in 1/2 may not necessarily be indicative of results in 3/4.

I'm in the same boat as you at the moment. I really think what it will come down to is belief and knowing that you've put the work in you'll achieve that goal. 40 Raw in BM is not overly difficult, it is definitely possible, even with relatively poorer SAC Marks. A friend of mine dropped 7 marks in his first 2 sacs and ended up with a score close to 45 (can't remember off the top of my head).

All you have to do is put the work in and believe in yourself, the problem is that everything is easier said than done.
Good luck :)

Hey,

First of all, Bus man 3/4 is definitely more challenging than 1/2. There is a lot more content to memorise (which i found interesting personally). Also, just because your teacher is bad doesn't mean you'll do poorly in the subject. Taking really condensed notes (from the textbook) and then periodically going over them will help to consolidate the information, not matter how poorly your teacher presented the material.

A 40 raw requires a decent amount of effort. Most of the effort is needed to first memorise the information (which there is tons of) and do practice questions which then makes you apply this information. Make sure you do plenty of questions before SACs.

The key to writing effectively in Bus Man is by having answers with a lot of Bus Man lingo. I cannot stress how important this is. It will help you to demonstrate to the marker that you do know what you are talking about as your are able to use the proper terms and definitions. Additionally, having clear answers is also important. Try to explain it as explicitly as possible within the time limit. A good rule of thumb is roughly 2 minutes a mark.

This is my advice as a student who did busman last year. Make sure you work hard. Make sure you know your content inside out, because the more you know, the more equipped you are to tackle a wide variety of questions. Hope I helped :)

Feel free to PM anytime.

The number of marks you lose in your SACs does not really play a big role in the final score you get. Different teachers set the SACs at different difficulty levels so even if you lost 10-20 marks, you could still make up for it by doing well on the exam. Also, try to achieve a good ranking in your cohort in the SACs, preferably in the top 5%.

IMO 45+ let alone 40 is achievable for anyone, regardless of how smart you are, how well you did in 1/2 etc.

BM isn't a subject which requires intensive study to understand concepts, moreso it's about familiarizing yourself with the type of questions they ask, knowing what they ask and how to answer it. Once you get the hang of this, you'll find little trouble with the subject.

Also I don't reckon you should think about any subject (especially BM) as the amount of hours you study a night, just prepare well for SACs and you'll be fine.
