Getting Ahead in Methods | Advice

Im after some advice from those who have already completed methods 3/4. This summer holidays i completed the first 4 chapters of essentials, covering the entire functions chapter and more revision from last year. Know school has started and while the class is working from Hinemann im trying to come up with a bit of plan as to what i should do. For some reason, even though i did every single question i feel that im not prepared for the functions sac. Im in a bit of a predicament whether I should for the next week and a bit until the sac just revise more and complete practice SAC's and then complete the sac and work with the class from then on. Meaning ill have a pretty chill week or so for methods. Or should i continue to move ahead into expos and logs, and do only a smaller amount of practice sacs/revision of the function SAC. Is getting ahead really that beneficial? Cause i feel by the time you finish it, and then the SAC's come round, you end up having to go through it again in some form (even if you covered it really in depth) to prepare for the SAC so its not THAT worthwhile. Can someone jump in and share some advice? Should i only work a couple of exercises instead of a entire chapter ahead of the class? It should be noted that im also in the process of getting a tutor maybe for one night a week, ranked pretty well in my cohort last year (top 10ish, maybe top 5, not sure). The only reason that i raise the question is the amount of content being quite long and the reasonable difficulty of said content in the methods course.

There's no point moving ahead if you aren't nailing your SACs. I wouldn't bother moving ahead until Term 3 holidays.

Well thats the thing. I was comfortable doing the work over the holidays, but now that i think about it, i kind of feel (even though i do heaps of work, this applies to every subject) its never enough. So by working with the class im kind of pressuring my self into making sure i know the stuff and dont have this couple of weeks where the class is catching up and im ahead and waiting to do the sac. Its not nessecairly that im not 100% with the content, cause theres always room for revision. Im just trying to make the decision whether i should od a bit of revision and keep moving ahead, or wait and just do revision as a way to keep it fresh in my mind, maybe work into 2 or 3 exercises of the next chapter and do SAC revision and perfect it even more. I dunno, i guess im going around in circles. Is it really that beneficial in the first semester to be working ahead?

In my opinion I would prioritize sac revision over moving ahead. I stayed with the class the whole way through and think this helped me really consolidate my knowledge and understand 100%. It's really important to nail your sacs and I found there was plenty of time for practice exams even though I didn't start them until the end of the September holidays. So I would spend the next week just revising what you have done so far really thoroughly, and aim to absolutely nail this first sac because that is what is really going to set you up for the rest of the year. Good luck!!

Thanks. I think thats the plan from now on. But instead move maybe 2 or 3 exercises ahead which both allows for a bit more freedom in the sense that if i get sick or something happens that i dont fall behind, and allows me to have those couple of days/classes (extra) for revision for the SAC.

Also. Im made a bit of a plan at the start of the holidays and that was to add every question that i screw up on (major errors not calc bashingn errors) to my notes. While it is effective, i kind of neglected it a bit doing the frist 3 chapters of essentials. So while i can go back through it and try to find the errors, it might be very time consuming. Would you recommend doing this for the other chapters? Should i go back through it and find the other questions? (most of which are in the extended response chapter review). Any other advice with this crap? haha. Thanks for you help guys.

I wouldn't stress over it too much. I didn't start compiling errors until I started practice exams, and I would say it's much more important at that end of the year than this end. If you know there are certain areas or question times you are likely to stuff up maybe not those down but unless you have plenty of time I wouldn't stress about going back over those questions.
