Classes. I need HELP.

Okay. So the uni has screwed up...again. Initially, ALL my Latin tutorials were supposed to be on either a Monday or a Wednesday. This was perfect for me since I have an unmissable lecture on Wednesday (it's not recorded) that goes for 2hrs and basically clashes with all the tutorials times for Latin on Wednesday. No biggie, I registered for Monday.

An hour or so later, I get a message. The university has screwed up. Instead, now I have to do my first tutorial on Monday and my second tutorial on Wednesday. Now, I'm sure you've realized the issue. I CAN'T do any tutorials on Wednesday for Latin since they clash with my, and I repeat, unmissable lecture. What on earth do I do? I feel like I'm about lose my head over this...

How can the university help?

What did the message say though?
So you actually got to enrol in the tute you wanted but got kicked out?

Latin is an odd subject, we have 2 tutorials to complete every week. Initially, both of those tutorial were to be completed either on a Monday or Wednesday. Now they've decided to split them up, which has caused a massive clash for me. I wasn't kicked out per se, BUT I'm not allowed to do both tutes on the same day anymore. The FIRST one on Monday the Second one on Wednesday. And it's the second one that clashes with my lecture, which I cannot miss. It's so f**king stupid though (pardon my language), why would my other subject (not Latin) only post a single lecture to be available.

When I did Italian last year we had some students who were unable to stick in a single stream and got permission to jump across streams by the subject co-ordinator. Perhaps try emailing your co-ordinator explaining the situation and hopefully they will make an exception for you.

Thanks Stick but both tutorials on Wednesday clash with my lecture, since the lectures goes for 2hrs.

To put it basically.

There's two Latin tutes on Wednesday
2:15 - 3:15
3:15 - 4:15

There's a lecture on Wednesday that goes from
2:15 - 4:15

Do you see? Since Latin is made up of such a small cohort, do you think that my prof will change the tute times? Is that even possible?

Why is the lecture 'unmissable' - is it just not recorded?

Yes, it's not recorded and they take attendance. It "unmissable," to quote my professor who I emailed a while ago.

It looks like second year subjects aren't anywhere as close to as flexible as first year subjects (timetable availability wise), my timetable is horrific!
There's a day I have to come in for one 1 hour unrecorded lecture, combined with a few 2-3 hour breaks on other days!

Dear God, I'm sorry to hear that! I completely agree though, this year's timetabling system is completely rigid. I feel like cursing whoever's responsible.

There's not a whole lot people on ATARNotes can do about your particular issue, try your student centre and subject coordinators.

Melbourne Uni didn't "screw up". Timetabling is an epic job and they cannot possibly cater for every single student. There are many reasons why a tutorial may need to be moved or cancelled. Take a breath...

a) Already contacted them, or rather I spoke to a lovely woman who was very helpful but I'm not sure if anything will happen since CREM is down for a while. Thankfully, it's a common issue with many people so I'm hoping that they have systems in place to resolve the clash. Bella, the woman I spoke seemed confident that the CREM report would help *fingers crossed.* I've also contacted my professors but it seems to be out of their control, they don't  know about the extra classes since it's not really within their jurisdiction. Ah well, as long as someone can help.

b) Apologies but I don't expect you to know. I've had some serious issues with the uni this past year, relating to personal things. They've conflicted with medical documentation causing a lot of trouble etc. If you knew you the story behind it, you might understand why I'm a little peeved or just tried really. This was just a general "I'm over recurring issues happening!"  I know it's not the university's fault but someone did put out faulty information, albeit by mistake. Just venting. I can't always provide a full context for why I say things. In all, I've met wonderful people at the university who have been unbelievably helpful to me, but you always get a handful of those who makes things difficult (this isn't in relation to my schedule).

I don't know why I'm defending this, but it's a stressful time for everyone. I get angry and I get sad, nothing serious is meant by it. Just stress.

On a more important note, when is the next registration date open?

Thank god for Unimelb's Business Improvement Program, crushing the aspirations of staff and students alike for a non-useless professional support staff since 2014.

:o Can't tell...whether you're being sarcastic? Some of the staff have been really helpful towards me, while others *sigh.* I guess you'll find that with every university.
