Thank you so much for clicking in.

I am planning to do the mathematics pathway for commerce instead of the standard quantitative pathway. The university handbook suggests that non-actuarial students should not choose accelerated maths 1&2. However it does not give any explanation. Is that because those subjects are not related to common commerce majors?

"It is recommended that students not pursuing actuarial studies meet the prerequisites for MAST20006 Probability for Statistics and MAST20004 Probability by enrolling in MAST10006 Calculus 2and MAST10007 Linear Algebra, even if they meet prerequisites for MAST10008 Accelerated Mathematics 1and MAST10009 Accelerated Mathematics 2. Students intending to pursue actuarial studies will take the mathematics path and enrol in MAST20004 Probability."

I would suspect that the Faculty of Business and Economics feels that the extra content(mathematical proofs) in Accel Maths 1&2 is unnecessary for the undergraduate Bcom degree if you're not doing Actuarial Studies, and doing Calc 2 and Lin Alg would suffice. If you're thinking about postgraduate study(e.g Masters degree) then doing Accel Maths or Real Analysis would be necessary.

Accelerated Maths is quite a lot of work compared to the normal maths subjects. I have friends on Chancellors who struggled in AM. Essentially, if you don't have to do it, don't.
