I don't know my capabilities/ what should I aim for?

I've been doing atar calculations lately and I don't know which subjects to prioritise! I'm doing 3/4 further.

Historically, my marks in math have been reallyyyy bad. I did methods 1/2 last year, and my stupid school didn't let me change into further when I knew it was too hard. The whole year of 2014, I didn't score anything above a 30%. I purposely didn't do work out of pure frustration towards the subject and my school. In saying this, I am not a 'dumb' student (I am willing to work hard and I am in the upper mid-range of my cohort), so how realistic is a good mark this year? Do I aim for a 30? 35? 40?

Were any of you guys in the same boat as me? Any advice would be great because I'm pretty lost.

Well, hang on - are you doing further now, or continuing with methods?

I spoke to a past student at my school who got 41 in Methods. He told me that he struggled in Year 11, but seeing as 3/4 and 1/2 contain much of the same topics, he was able to get a better grasp of things in Year 12.

I would say that with persistence, it is entirely possible for you to do well.

All good. :P Thankfully you posted it in the right spot, otherwise I wouldn't have thought about it~

Unless your school is doing the linear relationships module/maybe the matrices module if you particularly struggled with that section, nothing that you do in Further is much like methods at all. Core is completely different (with some similarities to probability, though not much at VCE level), business, number patterns and networks are nothing like methods, geometry/trig is just like year 10, then you're just left with linear relationships (which is just like that one chapter in methods) and matrices.

Just work your hardest. You don't need a numerical goal.

further is a completely different subject to methods and the types of thought processes in each arent really the same even though theyre both math(except in the linear module). if youre in the upper mid range of your cohort and you put in the work you could get any score really, there is no upper limit
