Possibility of getting above a 40 in further

Hey everyone, just needed some help to decide whether I should drop further and take GMS (or the Unit 1/2 of further maths) in order to achieve optimal results.

SO, at the moment I am in year 11 undertaking 2 VCE subjects (Health and Further). I am just a bit worried about further maths, as we got back our first sac results and I only managed a 77%. The class average was 82%, highest being a 97%. If it was an A, I would convince myself to simply try harder next time. I have been told that being at a harder school etc. causes the results to boost up later on. But then again, is it really going to boost me up that much to allow a 40+?

I am not sure of how VCE study scores are calculated etc. My current Year 11 subjects are English Language, Methods, Chemistry, Accounting. Followed by 3/4 HHD and Further.

Could you please suggest me possibilities to get that 40+ I desire in Further maths? Or simply help me decide whether taking the Unit 1/2 equivalent of further is a good way to go. I did Unit 1/2 HHD, it differs somewhat from 3/4, but there are several links between the two.

Please suggest to me how I can approach this, with taking the Unit 1/2 subjects into consideration.

Thank you

Hey.

There's nothing wrong the score you got. The only way from there is north for you if you put the work in.

Forget the possibility of a 40 score, getting high 40s - 50 is still quite possible. Doing well in the exam erases all your poor sacs.

Unit 3 counts for 20% and Unit 4 a mere 14%. These sac scores will undoubtedly scale up as you go to a select entry school.

My best advice would be to let it go and work harder for the next sac.

If I were to put money on you getting 40+ I would. Under all that stress and worry is someone with talent and the will to strive and achieve his/her goals.

I would also encourage you to read the study design so that any questions you may have can be answered.

I would keep going on with Further and do a tonne of practice questions and aim to smash both exams :). SACs are the minority of your study score for Further, and you're in a solid position if you're in a select school.
✌️just do what makes you happy ✌️

Don't worry mate, 1 SAC isn't that important in the context of the entire course. That SAC was only worth 20% of your SAC mark, which only constitutes 34% of your overall Study Score! So in effect, that SAC was only worth 6.8% of your overall Study Score. Of course you can still get 40, just use this as motivation to do better in your next SAC.

NB: I'll do some math to show you how insignificant a few marks are.

You got 77% of 6.8%, so thats 5.24% of your possible mark for that assessment. Top mark was 97%, which was 6.6%. So the difference between your marks and the top of the cohort is a measly 1.3%! Easily enough to make up throughout the course of the year.

Good luck.

OHH makes sense. So that'd mean, I can't afford to get anything below a high 80 in terms of SACs this point onwards? or high 90?

-aiming for a 100 regardless...because it's quite achievable it seems.

To do well on the exam then yes but it's still very much likely that even high with 70s - low 80s you'd still pull a 40 in Further. Your SAC's would scale up considerably, not sure how much but it would be considerable. A sac average would scale to A+ I'm quite sure.
