Hey,
After the completion of Biomed, if not MD, what other postgraduate courses can you go into which would still be in the field of of medicine or health?

And if you can, what would the prerequisites for that be? eg GAMSAT

Thanks :)

Besides MD at UoM, you have Dentistry, Physiotherapy, Optometry, Veterinary Medicine, Clinical Audiology, Speech Pathology, Nursing, Public Health, and Biomedical research.
I'm pretty sure Dentistry's the only one out of those that require the GAMSAT (not 100% sure though).

Physiotherapy, Optometry also require GAMSAT. Not sure about the rest.

Really? I read on the Physio website a while back that it doesn't require GAMSAT. I think Optom does though.

Ohh sorry, I just checked it as well. It doesn't require the GAMSAT but has an MMI on the other hand, Optom requires GAMSAT but has no MMI O.o

Also, Monash Parkville offers a graduate pathway into Pharmacy, where if you get in, you do a bridging course and then do Year 3 and Year 4 of the Pharmacy program. Basically, it'll only take 2 years to finish the degree.

They have replaced an interview with a 500 written statement for optometry (however I think I have read that they are able to conduct interviews if it gets very competitive, which is rare)
2012-2014. BSc: Neuroscience. University of Melbourne.
2015-2018. Doctor of Optometry. University of Melbourne.

Unlikely to respond to any PMs these days.

There's also a few other options at La Trobe such as occupational therapy, dietetics and podiatry which you might not necessarily be interested in now but it's good to know your options

Depends on where you apply for post-grad. Melbourne is one of the most competitive in the country so you'll have to be very committed and hard-working. Ideally you want the majority of your subjects to be H1 and you want at least 85th-90th percentile in the GAMSAT to have a shot at a CSP. Other schools, such as Deakin or Monash, may be easier to get into.

That being said, I think there are more students in the MD who have a biomed background than those who don't (mainly because biomed students are more neurotic than others). Can't confirm though.

2016-2019: Doctor of Medicine (MD4) at The University of Melbourne

That's true - but keep in mind that those courses (unless you do the combined Bachelors/Masters, which are CSP) are full fee.

The figure I heard was that the MEDIAN GAMSAT score for those who get an interview is 67 (94th percentile) and median GPA 6.7. They interview 150% of the total number of places in the course I think.

Were those numbers from the internet or from someone at an open day or course information day?

Those numbers are from GEMSAS so they're valid. Although I heard that they were the means, not the medians.
