In my opinion theres really nothing you can do. However, I was in your situation once in year 10 Maths. I was a bad student and the teacher always gave me crap, when I wanted to try hard I would ask him for help but he wouldn't. What I did was ask other Maths teachers for help and got a tutor for extra help. Then on tests I would get high scores just to be like in your face, I don't need your help. So I guess you could just find a tutor and just ignore her.

As for her being your only chem teacher at school, do you know if any of your other science teacher's taught chem in the past? Heck even your lab technician (the one who prepares all the chemicals at your school) would be able to answer any questions you have regarding chem. Otherwise you can always ask us on AN

Yeah, most teachers don't have a relationship with students post-Year 12. Not everyone can be the teacher's best friend.... but again, if you feel that a teacher's attitude isn't ideal, best is to ignore it and don't talk back, especially if it's Year 12.

NEVER go to your co-ordinator unless you absolutely have to. The coordinator will tell the teacher what's going on (despite all this confidentiality BS) and this will only likely make matters worse.

As long as your SACs are not being marked unfairly (check carefully) and you are getting equal help as every other student, you shouldn't worry too much in terms of trying to get to her good side. There's five subjects and five different teacher personalities to worry about!

Generally I wouldn't bother if the teacher has a faint disliking for me, but in this case, it sounds like there is some real medium-rare sizzling beef between you two. I'd say start by treating her with utmost respect at all times ("I'm not dumb" definitely didn't help) and take every chance to make amends. The little things will make a huge difference. e.g. Say thank you to her at the end of class, "have a nice weekend", "sorry sir/miss" with your head down and shut up, even when she tells you off for BS.

If that doesn't work (which is very unlikely) talk to her and just discuss the beef openly. Most teachers I know will spite you in SAC marking if you're not on their good side, so be careful and swallow your pride. Suck and swallow. For your ATAR.

I had a teacher like this in year 12. We just clashed for some reason and she didn't like me but she still at least tried to be nice. If it gets really bad then maybe consider talking to your coords, just make sure that you work out if she is close friends with either of them because then things could get difficult.

Just keep your head down and do your work and see if it continues. I found that after a while I was given better treatment as we both started to respect each other more. Also, teachers have bad days and they are human but you have to work out for yourself when you feel like a line is being crossed.

But yeah on the topic of a teacher that seems to dislike you, it's a very sensitive situation. You need to be extremely careful in your Chemistry class because the reality is that teachers and their relationships with student will be a factor in SAC marking.

I've been on the VCAA website and have seen these sorts of questions asked by teachers in the FAQ section, obviously not explicitly but they've alluded to this being the case.

I would say to develop some sort of a relationship between yourself or the teacher. Greetings would help and if you don't see an improvement in the attitude of this teacher then I would encourage you to approach her and let her know of your thoughts. Don't be aggressive at all, just convey to the teacher your problems. Don't state the problem unless she is being uncooperative.

I think the question needs to be asked, exactly how did you react (what did you say/do?) when she said the previous year that she thought you'd fail the exam? Maybe that can give us an idea of why she's acting this way.

I actually didn't say anything to her, I may have said "Why would you think that" but I don't remember
I do remember that I was a little offended because she embarrassed me in front of another girl in the class and comforted her for getting a low result, saying she's a smart girl etc, kinda implied that I'm not...

If that's the case I feel sorry for you. You can of course try to milk it (suck up) for what it's worth but I'm not sure to be quite honest with you.

You're definitely not alone here. Some people even feel the need to move schools because of the prejudice (not suggesting anything...just sayin').

It happened to me (a lot) and there's really nothing you can do except for seek help elsewhere, such as tutors, online stuff like vTextbook (seriously, try it, lifesaver) and even asking our forum - most of the time you'll get a well explained response in a matter of minutes from people that actually want to help lol

Certain teachers sometimes (unfortunately) don't really deserve their position, simply because they either a) don't care if you get a 5 or a 50 or b) only care if you manage to successfully compliment them every lesson.
This is sad but true, so try your hardest to seek outside help because trying to suck up to her now is just going to waste your valuable time and energy. Complaining, whether it's your parents or you, doesn't really do anything except bring the problem to her attention, and this could go two ways - she could be nicer or she could raise hell every lesson. C'mon, it's year 12 and you don't deserve this s***, no kid does.
