Melb Uni Parking @ Cardigan Street question

New to melb uni and want to sort out parking.
I understand that at 220 Cardigan Street there's all day parking for around $10.

I haven't been to the carpark yet, but I like to be prepared before going.
So here's my question: Since there's a student discount of $10, how do they know you are a student? Is there a staff member you show your ID card to, or do you have to buy some sort of permit? Also, when it comes to paying, is it just the usual grab a ticket and pay at the station kinda thing? Finally, is there usually enough parking inside or do ppl have to wait for ages b4 finding a spot?

Thanks guys :D

Yes, you're right.  It's the old Royal Women's Hospital car park and it is basically a large brownish building that is a multi-storey car park.  You enter through Cardigan Street.  If you enter before 11AM, you're pretty much guaranteed a spot.

You grab a ticket as usual and park your car where you can see a spot.  To get the $10 student parking, you'll have to pay near where you get a ticket before it closes.  I like to pay straight after I find a spot so I don't forget.  Otherwise, you'll have to pay from the machines and you'll have to pay the full price.

I must pRk somewhere else, but I thought it was the hospital/Cardigan St. I've never pre paid, only parked then paid when I return to my car, you go to the guy at the entrance in the booth and show him your student card, I've been there as late as 11pm and he's still in his booth. I think they close at midnight? Maybe I'm thinking of a different carpark?

Also it's $11 now.

There are two carparks on Cardigan St. One is on the intersection of Cardigan/Grattan and the other is near Elgin/Cardigan.

I'm thinking of the one near Grattan street / Cardigan I think. So that's the prepaid one? And the one where you show your ID to the man in the boothe is the Elgin/ cArdigan park ?

You've got them switched, Grattan/Cardigan is where you show your card and is independently owned.
Elgin/Cardigan is University run and is prepaid.
