hey everyone,

I just wanted to ask in regards to getting into Medicine, if I performed not very well the first year of my undergraduate course would it greatly hinder the chances of me getting into Medicine...  :-[

An honest response would greatly be appreciated... thanks!

No it wouldn't. The way in which the GPA for med is calculated (look at Russ's thread in the health sciences sub forum), 1st year is worth the least in comparison to 2nd and 3rd year. Knuckle down for the rest of your degree and you should have as good a chance as everyone else to get in :)

Each first year subject is worth 2% of your GPA, the whole year would only be worth 16%. It's still very possible to get a high GPA even after a poor first year.
