I can't speak for everyone and it'd probably be fair to say that there's a degree of irrationality in people's choices of clubs to hate, but personally I don't like them mainly for the fact that they tanked last year and got away with it. Final round last year, rested half their players so that they'd be fresh for the finals. Proof was in the pudding there because they played the Tigers two weeks in a row, got pumped the first time and then won the second with all their players back. Then you add onto that Brad Scott and boomer, two of the biggest flogs around, and yeah, doesn't exactly make for a well loved team.
With that said, that's kind of always been the way with NM. Really good fan base that have stuck by their club really well, but not exactly a well loved team by everyone else. Which is kind of the best of footy hey? :p
That's quite an interesting perspective - I haven't heard anyone give that opinion before. Obviously i'm not going to dispute any of that (too much) because of my biased view towards NM, so fair enough

All I can say Boomer is far from a flog, gonna break the all time games record next week (try and beat that!)
I'm aware of that tank, they got permission from the AFL to do so (i'm surprised you didn't mention Fremantle as well since they did the exact same thing?). This brings forward the current issue the AFLPA is trying to push through - reorganised BYES (and adding one?) so that the players have ample rest opportunity. One would argue that the current bye implemented at the end of round 23 is beneficial, but in my opinion I think it's far from it. My view is that they're getting paid a shitload of money to kick a ball around, so they should suck it up.
I can completely understand dislike for teams and of course that's part of any sport (just like I hate Collingwood

) We've come a really long way - from a terrible team when Brad Scott started to making 2 consecutive prelim finals (whilst not getting AFL funding props like some other clubs do).
