3+4 without 1+2

My friend just decided that she wants get into medicine and realised that she needs chemistry.
So she is going to pick up chemistry next year in year 12.
Given that she has forgotten most of year 10 chem how hard do you think it will be for her?
She was told of a course run in the summer holidays that covers all of units 1+2 chemistry, but was unable to find any information on it, does anyone know of these?

Thanks

"a course run in summer holidays that covers all of units 1 and 2 chem"? lol haven't heard of that before. i have only been to a summer school which serves unit 3&4 head start purposes.

if i were your friend, i would probably grab the heinemann book and work my ass of during the summer holiday, attempting every single question in the book. that's the most efficient way of gaining unit 1 and 2 knowledge in my opinion. she could probably post here if shes got unsure questions like what many year 11s are doing atm. Neap studyguides are also highly recommended, trust me, they could help improving your grades from a B to an A+ average.

I haven't heard of them either. But its a bridging course to gain knowledge needed from 1+2 to start 3+4.

I'd say get a tutor or maybe perhaps you can teach your friend the fundamentals in unit 1 and 2 chem. do it in december because during jan you may be in the cbs mode.

also, there isnt much to it in units 1 and 2, dont worry about the chapters about water etc and the green chem.

start with moles etc and dont get ur friend worried about the sp1 sp2 shells...

i dont think that reading by yourself about chem would be useful unless she/he has done moles, periodic table trends in year 10 :)

I was a tutor for someone in your friend's exact position. I was able to teach him the basics of 1/2 chem (the stuff he needed to know for 3/4) in about a month. It's definitely doable - there are some really excellent chemistry tutors on this site. I wouldn't recommend she tries to learn that stuff by herself.

Just tell her to make sure she works really really hard and really keeps up to date on her work, and I think she will be fine.

heheehehe i can talk from personal experience here.

wow. i was like that friend of yours. i decided i wanted to do med, so i picked up chem this year.

dw. it is possible. i had a tutor who was really dedicated and so condensed everything into 2 months. ninwa's advice is very good. should follow that. self study should be ok as well but should have a teacher available to enlighten on "details" because i guess i'm coping due to the fact that i understand the concepts.

that's as much as i can really say, except for glhf!
