What benefit will VCE PE give me?

(1/1)

SXR19:
Once I finish school, I want to become an occupational therapist and I'm wondering if PE will give me
the knowledge I need for this career.

Thanks!

PS A friend of mine is wondering where he can do PE 1/2 via distant ed. If you know any places, answer away

Heyy  :D
Basically no VCE subject is going to give you the knowledge for any career but it is a great subject.

One of my best friends is actually studying OT and she PE was actually a pretty helpful. Year 11 work such as learning about about the bones and muscles and different body systems helped her immensely (Bones and muscles require a bit of time and effort to learn). You also learn a bit of sports psychology and injury prevention.
Everything is taught from scratch but if you go through PE and enjoy it then it is pretty likely that you will enjoy a fair bit of the OT course :)

Probably best to check with your school about this.

Just to address this part of the question; Distance Education doesn't offer 1/2 and it would be too late to enrol now anyway. However, he could enrol in 3/4 next year. I'm not too sure how PE via distance works in terms of the practical component but it sounds as though you'll have to travel into Melbourne. The link is here: http://www.distance.vic.edu.au/samples/1112.html and states: "Close liaison with the VCE PE teacher is expected and attendance at a teacher-facilitated workshop/seminar in Melbourne is compulsory." It would be best to enquire about it though so your friend knows what to expect.
