Legal Studies is useful for the first three or four weeks of the introductory unit of law. But you can learn it in uni anyway and VCE legal won't help that much for that unit.

Also, everything you learn in Legal Studies is not directly assessable in university law, but used only as an introduction to the legal system. The things they test you on in the introductory unit will be skills-based, such as interpreting a piece of law, not facts-based stuff that VCE legal focuses on.

But VCE Legal gives you a snapshot of the legal system and is a pretty decent subject if you enjoy the content.

EDIT: I am also speaking from a Monash university perspective. Not sure about Latrobe or Deakin (the only other universities providing undergrad law).
