Literature, English, or English Language?

My VCE subject selection is coming up soon and I was just wondering; what were the differences between these three English subjects (English, literature, English language)? What would I have to be good at to excel in any of these subjects (e.g. analysing, writing persuasive essays, etc.)? How would I be able to improve my English skills over the next two years before the big exam?
I think I'm good at writing creative pieces, and I do fairly well in writing language analysis pieces, although I am horrible at writing persuasive essays under the clock.
Any help, tips or facts would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I'd recommend that you check out the new study designs that will be implemented next year for exact details regarding the three subjects, however:

- In mainstream English, you look at language analysis, writing about ideas and writing in response to a text. It should also be noted that English is a lot more structured than lit.

- In literature, everything is purely text focused. Lit is generally perceived as the harder English, as it is a lot more in-depth and dependent on your own interpretation.

- English Language is kind of like the sciency English. As it is more factual than opinion-based. (However I do not study this subject so I don't know too much about it).

Hope this helps!

Some threads to read:

English LIT or LANG?
What's the difference between VCE English and VCE English Language?
English Vs. Literature

READ THE TOP TWO, they have really valuable insights.

P.S. Writing persuasive essays - I don't think it's needed in any of the three subjects, though you have a persuasive oral in English.  Creative - uncertain about Lit, it may contain creative; English definitely can (and if you're in year 10 this year there will be a compulsory creative SAC in 3/4, but I don't think on the exam); definitely not Eng Lang.

Language analysisy stuff is biggest I think in Eng Lang, but also in English, and analysing language will always come up in all Englishes regardless.  I've only done English though.
