Spesh and methods at same time?

I'm thinking of doing specialist 3/4 next year (my school doesn't offer 1/2), however I will also be completing methods 3/4 at the same time. I understand that completing methods early makes spesh easier. Could someone please explain how disadvantaged I will be? Do you think I would be capable of spesh??

Most people would do Methods and Spesh in the same year (including myself). You're not really at much of a disadvantage.

Same, and yeah you'll be in the same position as plenty of the state's spesh students. There are may be a few awkward points where you need to do something in spesh but you haven't gotten up to it in methods yet, so you sometimes need to think about how you can coordinate the content between the two subjects, like what order to study stuff in for the first time. But it's definitely not a compelling reason not to take both subjects.

Keep in mind that doing Specialist helps with Methods too- I'd say doing them concurrently is optimal.

Definite agreement there. Learning some calculus/integration techniques are quite useful in methods, and it's better (IMO) doing methods in one year, then trying to remember it in specialist the next.

In the face of the new study design, those who do methods this year and specialist next year might actually be a little disadvantaged with area of study 6 (statistics), so this could be a blessing in disguise. (also the usual "lots of people do it", "look at high achievers", yada yada yada already said)

(also, if you are one of the students mentioned, you're not too disadvantaged - a little reading will bring you up pretty quickly. You're only really disadvantaged in some contextual knowledge, nothing mathsy you might actually get asked)

Hi again, Peanut Butter! :)

I'll be most probably doing spesh next year with Methods as well! You! We can aim at 50s together again! :P

EulerFan101, do you have any tips for us future spesh and meth students? Also, with regards to the new statistics thing in spesh, will statistics from Further be of any use to it? Will it help?

Thanks! :)

Erm, see the forums? Not really much I can add to what everyone else seems to say all the time. Actually practice, don't just spam questions, actually try to understand what you're doing as opposed to following recipes, the usual and such.

Also, with regards to the new statistics thing in spesh, will statistics from Further be of any use to it? Will it help?

Lolnup, this be real statistics (#soznotsoz). Come to the free lecture to find out more. ;) (srs tho, they're completely unrelated. Minus calculating means and standard deviations, there is no overlap between the two)
