I reckon its a good idea. I know people that did well in VCE and arent doing as well at uni compared to people that got less ENTERs. ENTER isnt the be all and end all when it comes to determining uni performance, since 'real learning' only begins at uni, whilst VCE is just a measure of how well u can memroise and rote learn.

No, because I'm reasonably good at rote learning

^ from what iv'e understood form the article, it wont happen for like YEARS i reckon anywhere between 5-6 years.
1= its just TALK/attention/media attention for now
2= haven't probably even sat down and discussed
3= still have to lay out ideas/rules
4= implement it

I don;t even think the article mentioned ANYTHING about when it will be looked into etc. so yeah. too late for us :(

however, your best shot is probably finishing your bachelors with flying colours, then do a postgraduate degree at UoM.

Personal statement essays and the like never end well with me so personally I hate this idea. But I can see how it can benefit most people and make things fairer.

Why not try to fix up the high school system so that the ENTER/ATAR is a better reflection of likely abilities in higher education (which after all, is what it's there for, to rank candidates)?

No, it's just going to make it harder for students to know exactly what they need to do to get in.

What i hope happens is that the ENETR is used as the MAIN instrument, but if you get below in it, and lets say maybe also u do really bad in exams, but have a good knowledge and interests in the subject (based on ur SACS), that they look into it, and allow you to get into your course even if ur below the ENTER. Currently, they do allow you to get in if u get below but its just from SEAS etc, and sometimes it isn't the best tool since not SOOO many people are eligible/or wrote good reasons.

As having already got into Uni, I think this kind of system definately has merits and is perhaps slightly fairer than judging whether someone should be accepted based on a single number.

However, if I was in year 12 and I was told this I'd probably be a little annoyed. The 'Clearly-In' score is something to aim for in year 12. It sure would be frustrating if you got a good score but your essays or whatever they test weren't up to scratch and you weren't accepted.
