Language subject?

I'm looking to study a Bachelor of Arts next year at UoM or International Studies at RMIT, only difference is the atar (rural student, i'm applying through access melbourne) and the fact that RMIT offers language subjects for beginners (i've never really studied a language since primary school) is there any language subjects designed for a student like me at UoM? or do I have to give up my dream of learning a language if I can't get into RMIT?

There are various language levels. They do start from the basics and progress. I know at UoM you can even do a concurrent language diploma that only adds one year to your degree. Here is a link with all the languages (I think): https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/faces/htdocs/user/search/SearchResults.jsp

You get put into the level that matches your ability in that language via an online test when you enroll in the subject.

2015-2017: B.Sci @ UoM
2018-2019: M. Marketing Communications @ UoM

melbourne offers more languages than RMIT and I have heard that melbournes languages also go to higher levels.
you can start any language at melbourne with absolutely 0 background knowledge, it will be called chinese 1 or arabic 1 or XXXXX 1 so yeah it will be fine.

I can vouch for the fact that languages are very well taught at UoM. I've taken French and Spanish subjects of various levels and all except one of my teachers has been a native speaker. They know how to actually teach the language to people learning it, too. I've found that language classes are a lot better than other classes for meeting people, as you're usually with the same group of people two or three times a week for a semester.

You can study French, Spanish, German, Russian, Swedish, Arabic or Chinese. There are some pretty interesting elective subjects you can pick, I know for Spanish you can study Don Quixote for a whole semester.

You can start from scratch but the introductory subjects go quite slowly, if you're really motivated you could study a bit over summer, take the placement test and possibly enter at a higher level. Or if you prefer to really have a solid foundation, start at the beginning and know that you'll be well taught for your whole degree.

You've forgotten Italian (and a couple of others) in that list! And I'm pretty sure Swedish is no longer taught due to low demand? (I would've done it though :( ). I can also vouch that languages at the university are very well taught. :)

I started Spanish at Melbourne and did it for a year and a half. Now I can have full conversations with Spanish speakers and even got to teach VCE Spanish at the start of the year.
Long story short: my experience with languages at Melbourne has been great and getting to a high-standard in a relatively short amount of time is definitely achievable.

Yep, you're right. It got given the arse after 2013. So did Korean.

Pretty sure Monash has the most broad selection of languages. They even have Catalan and Modern Greek, which is pretty cool!
