Can examiners catch two people for plagiarism?

Asking for two friends (not on any social media platform)

They are two very bright twins who are on track for a high 99 ATAR. They obviously both go to the same tutors/lectures/classes.
Now the question is they told me how for Text response but more context, there pieces would be almost identical if not word to word.(memorized pieces)
Is there any chance that an examiner could read the same piece twice and call it plagiarism? or are the chances too slim?
And what would happen in this case? because technically its their own work

Thanks

Man, all I can say is that if their pieces are almost identical and NOT adapted to the particular prompt, then they probably won't score 99-ATAR-high.  To pull off memorised pieces adequately, you've got to be able to adapt, which would be an individual thing.

Sorry forgot to mention, I have seen their pieces and they mould each prompt to their memorized pieces and it has worked properly so far. From the practice exam our school had done externally they both got 10/10's for context and Text response.
Just would there be a problem during the actual exam, or would examiners not pick up on it?

No they wouldn't know if they were plagiarised as the examiners read hundreds of essays in a very short time & wouldn't be focusing on if they were identical or not.

It's highly unlikely but if you do get caught they do run the risk of getting a unassessed meaning that they effectively fail that essay (get a 0 or have only the non plagiarised sections count which means it'll be sub 5) and hence, most likely their English study score will be screwed as well.
If one case of plagiarism is found then all your essays will be scrutinised.
It's possible to have one twin take the hit if that's the case and claim that one copied the other's essays (so one will probably leave unscathed since its not your fault if your twin steals your essay).

You run a pretty thin line there. And if you've seen their essay, chances are another cheap student looking for gags probably has too (and if he's really jealous he can probably report them and effectively screw them for good).

I'd advise not to try it but hey. If that's their only way of getting a high essay score.. Circumstances dictate action I guess

Chances are higher if it's a good essay because examiners tend to remember the very top end and the very bottom end because they stand out. Examiners are human and they love discussing bad/great essays too :P
