Manufacturing = Manufacturing
Retail = Service

Similarities
 - conversion of inputs into outputs
 - outputs sold to customer for a price
 - can be a degree of variation
Differences
 - production and consumption simultaneous in service but not in manufacturing
 - intangible vs tangible
 - high degree of variation compared to low degree
 - high customer involvement in service
 - manufacturing outputs can be stored but service outputs cannot be stored
