Subject selection help

Hi guys,

I'm currently completing my year 11 VCE with the subjects; Mathematical Methods, Accounting, Further Maths (3/&4), Business Management, Physics and English. Next year I plan to do Methods, Physics, Accounting and English, however, it has come to my attention that Specialist Mathematics will be highly beneficial if I choose to complete an Engineering course at university which is something I am fairly interested in. I am fairly good and find mathematics interesting and fun to an extent.

My question is; do you think it is reasonable for someone to complete units 3 and 4 of specialist without having done units 1&2?

If I do opt to do specialist maths in year 12 I will utilise the summer break to catch up on the content I missed out on, however will it be enough?

Also, I understand that only 2 mathematics subjects can be in my top 4, so my completion of specialist maths will be mostly for the knowledge and not the atar gains.

Knowledge gain = the best reason to do a subject.

Anyway, I think it's very reasonable to do 3/4 spec without 1/2 - they don't have anything in common anyway (unless your teacher is pulling a dodgy). Do specialist.
