If we printed off good threads from a subject forum and make a study guide out of it [doesn't have to be of particular order], do you think that'll make a market hit?

Why would people pay for it when they can get it for free..?

Why would people pay for it when they can get it for free..?

1. People tend to like having hard copies of things. I've got all my uni textbooks on computer, but I still bought them.
2. They'd be compiled and MUCH easier to read than having to flick through hundreds of pages of threads
3. I'm assuming there'd be new content to fill in the gaps that we have in the boards.

However, the viability of this is still concerning. I'm not sure whether we have enough real content for a study guide. Most threads are just text book questions being answered. I'm assuming there'd need to be A LOT of new content at this rate.

A book is much easier to look at for revision than a computer screen and its endless procrastination problems...

I know a few people who has printed many many pages for that purpose.

Would VN be allowed to compile all these questions/notes into a study guide? considering the majority of these come from published text books/resources/exams ?

Not too sure about this idea. Getting publishers, tidying up all the threads, etc. might be too big of a step.

What happened to the FSN Trial Exams? :) Maybe those could be completed. If they are good quality exams, this board's name will get out there and it'll be easier to sell the study guides later.

If we just take questions that people ask on the forum then that would be copyright hell, obviously the other compnies would not give permission.

I reckon if we make trial exams it should be a community-wide effort, not just the efforts of a single individual. We could take contributions of original questions from VN members and have a study-guide team that sorts the good from the bad. To make sure the questions are original, we could have VN member's usernames underneath the questions so that if they have been copied, those members would take the blame, and not VN as a whole.

We could do the same thing for the theory section of the study guide, have a team that sorts through member contributions and collates them into an orderly study guide. The members who contribute would have glory and possibly other benefits.

I think this actually has a lot of potential if it is a community effort. Traditional study guides are at a disadvantage because they do not know what their clients need. If the community writes for the community then we will have the best chance of providing absolutely comprehensive material, and catering for everybody's needs.

I like the idea of VN collaborative trial exams, that would really get the name out there. And if we just give them out free as pdfs (at least for the start) then they would presumably spread rapidly throughout the classes. As a footer we could have a link to the website.

And as for /0, while members can contribute questions and the questions they contribute can be monitored, each question should not have the username underneath. If there is a problem the member can still be contacted, but trial exams should have some level of authenticity to appear 'serious'.

Obviously the first priority would be the popular subjects like Methods. Considering how many members there are with awesome math-skills, you could maybe even make a mid-range and a hard-range paper (no point making easy-range) with the hard-range paper basically made by Mao, kamil, /0 etc.

Yeah so imo a VN trial exam set would be way more effective in getting the name out there compared to a VN Study Guide although that's not an idea that should be permanently panned and may be worth coming back to in future years.

VN trial exam have been in the making for... two years now. (one or two of VN Legal exams have already been and gone). It's just, people get busy and nothing ever gets done, such as the Viki.
