Specialist study design change in 2016

Hi guys,
I have a question regarding the change in specialist study design 2016 :)
From what I believe, some statistics thing is being introduced next year. But is it simply being added to the current study design or is something being removed as a result of this new area of study?
I'm just curious because now that my yr 11 exams are over (Hooray!! Wooop Woop!), I have nothing to do and so I want to get ahead.
I don't want to learn more than what I have to (although learning extra would be beneficial to me in the long term, I don't have the time!)
If anybody has valuable information regarding this, please reply below! I'll be checking frequently :) :)

I have a question regarding the change in specialist study design 2016 :)
According to the new study design the main areas of study are
  • Functions and graphs
  • Algebra
  • Calculus
  • Vectors
  • Mechanics
  • Probability and statistics
Comparing it to the previous study design the only change is the addition of probability and statistics, so no topics have been removed. (This is also what the maths teachers at my school told me)
Hope this helps :)

For specialist, I don't think so. Mostly just adding statistics and probability - there might be a few minute details added/removed here and there; the changes for spesh and methods were mostly nitpicky compared to further/general which was more of a complete overhaul (well that's a slight exaggeration, but still).

For getting ahead, you could probably just grab an older edition of whatever textbook your school uses and work through that. The only thing you'd really be missing is the statistics but that shouldn't be a big deal.

So, your post reminded me that I promised to do this, so here it is. ;) You might find it helpful.

Otherwise, a few things are out, with a couple of more things coming in. However, some of the incoming things have actually just been kicked out of methods and put into specialist, so if you study methods as if it were the old study design (ignoring Markov chains), then you'll encounter all the new stuff in specialist. The exception to this is statistics (see above) and separation of variables (a technique used for solving some differential equations. There are lots of videos online that go over this, and plenty of other resources, so a google search will take you to where you need to go.)

So how much "harder" will spesh get?
I was given a chapter on graphs of reciprocals, ellipses etc today when I finished my orientation  :D :D
I actually enjoyed the graphing of 1/x and 1/x=x^2 etc but it took some time (5-10 mins then I sketched each part of the equ. separately and observed the changes :)) to wrap my head around it.

It's not the only 'hard' thing in VCE if you know what I mean!

Should I be hoping that I don't?  :o
