Is the Software Book worth it?

Hi guys. I have a friend that did software dev last year and said that he didn't use his book once. I found the PHP book online. And the software dev book from Janson is $99. What do you guys think, should I get it to be safe or not.

PS. I'm already half decent at coding and stuff relating to computers. I used to make android apps in my spare time in year 9 and 10. Just putting this, if it effects anything.
