I'm hoping that I can get straight into a Bcommerce (Economics) and study Intro Microeconomics, Accounting Reports and Analysis, Commerce Elective and Accelerated Maths 1 in Semester 1. However if I don't, what do you suggest I study first which requires a lower ATAR cut-off so I can transfer into a BCommerce (Economics) in Semester 2?

your major is irrelevant

Do a science degree, AM1 would count as a science subject + the 3 commerce subjects would fit nicely into the 37.5 level 1 breadth limit. If you get in via midyear transfer, it'll be as if you took a commerce degree.

I should point out that midyear transfer is tougher than end of year, I think you need a 75-80% WAM for that - think twice about taking AM1 as opposed to Calc 2, 1st yr uni maths apparently have enormous fail rates

My friend's in the same position except he deferred a year and his atar is lower than the requirement for BCom at Melb. Apparently you could do Bach of Business at RMIT, or at Monash, and BCom at Monash for half a year and then do a transfer. To be successful for a transfer your marks for that semester should be 75+.

I can't confirm if this is accurate so it's best to contact the relevant faculty within each uni :)
