hi! just a quick question about using a related text,
am i able to use Persepolis as a related text for discovery? i was told that it was too risky to use such a book that deals with religion and politics. so will it really be too risky to use such a text?

Not at all! Provided it has techniques you can analyse and ties into your themes, I'd imagine a book that deals with those elements would be quite effective! You don't need to present the arguments it is making politically to present the point it makes on Discovery ;D

Hey,
just wondering; how would you play the devil's advocate if the question asks about planned discoveries?

Thanks!!

Have you read Mada438's amazing article on this? ]https://atarnotes.com/forum/index.php?topic=175645.0]  :D

Question statement: Discovery is a process of careful planning.
Devil’s advocate thesis: The only true discoveries are those that are unplanned.

For example I am doing The Tempest, I would say that despite Prospero's careful planning, his transformative discovery is ultimately unexpected.

Hey, zanibalh.

I guess it depends on the nature of the question! But I think the idea is that most of the discoveries stem from unforeseen actions or consequences and often the most meaningful ones are serendipitous and unplanned.

Think about how this relates back to your own reality too! In what ways do the unplanned discoveries become intensely meaningful to you? And how does it differ to planned ones?

jazcstuart has provided a great guide for you to read so make sure you have a read at that! But I think the take away message is that your own judgement best comes from your own experiences.

Hopefully this helps with your own work! :)

Hey guys,

Just very quickly, does this intro answer the question?

“Values presented in texts are always shaped by the text’s context.” How true is this statement of the two texts you studied?

An exploration of the way in which society reflects upon the humanistic and universal concerns of redemption and love; are products of their time, though they often transcend and reconfigure for eternal relevance. Albeit centuries separate their disparate contexts, a myriad of intrinsic human truths connect John Donne’s Jacobean poetry and Margaret Edson’s post-modern secular play Wit. Hence, despite their distinctive forms and contexts, implicit and explicit intertextual connections are apparent between the texts such as the pursuit for spiritual reconciliation with death affront of suffering, and the emphasis upon significant human connection. These deliberations culminate in each texts treatment of redemption, as rendered by their respective religious and secular contexts.

Thankyou guys!!

Hey guys,
If i choose to only do 2 body paragraphs for a module, would that affect the way in which my paper is marked?
As in, would it have an affect on my mark or is it just more safe to do 4 paragraphs?

I just feel like I won't have enough time to write 4 paragraphs for 3 different modules.

Thanks!

Are you talking about intergrated essays? Because thats how many body paragraphs you'd have in that case. They're just bigger than non integrated/self-intergrated.
"Live life like a pineapple. Stand tall, wear a crown and be sweet on the inside"

"May you grow up to be righteous; may you grow up to be true. May you always know the truth and see the lights surrounding you. May you always be courageous, stand upright and be strong"

"Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire"

I dont think so, I was just thinking abt doing one paragaph for each speech but discussing the same central theme.

It is always quality over quantity! 2 great paragraphs is better than four 'iffy' ones, 100% ;D

Hello.
Just wondering about in Section III Paper 1 AOS essay when it says specifically with ONE other related text of your own choosing, does that mean max ONE? Can you use two related texts and not get marked down?
Also, how likely are they to ask for TWO related texts? It doesn't seem to be common in past papers, but there's nothing stopping them doing it is there?

thanks. :)

Hey! I think the general idea of your story is already set up for this particular concept, you just need to emphasise different things.

Perhaps the story instead reflects on the characters time in isolation - Perhaps they initially feel they don't belong there, but slowly realise that they do. As in, they don't learn anything about themselves until they accept their own wrongdoing. Or something like that?

Ultimately, you need to have the thing causing the Discovery happen earlier, and the actual Discovery happen later. That accentuates the theme in the question. You sort of do this - She is released at the start, but doesn't realise she wants to be until the end. You just need to accentuate the difference a bit more I guess? :)

Hey! If they say one, they mean one. If they say at least one, you can do more, but in general I think it is better to stick with one! Two related texts is very hard to handle well ;D

Two related texts would be super unlikely. You are right, they could, but I just don't see them doing that to the cohort. I would prepare for it by practicing using one of the unseen texts from Section 1, because that would be my planned response if they did do it :)

Hello,
Does anyone have any tips for how to adapt your essay scaffolds or properly engage with the question asked during an exam?
I have always struggled with this component and have been told that I only skirt around the question asked.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you :)
