hi,
I need help planning out my response for this q: Whether motivated by need, curiosity, or wonder, discovery has the power to be transformative.’ How accurately does this statement reflect the view of discovery explored in your prescribed text and one other related text of your own choosing?

I have 3 poems (Dobson's poetry) that I want to talk about, 1 for curiosity, 1 for necessity etc. +1 ort.  how should I structure it (in an integrated way) for this q, using the process of discovery eg. 1.) values and ideas challenged, 2.)emotional engagement 3.) new ideas and values 4.) the discovery is unending and cyclical.

how am I supposed to answer the how accurately part? do I need to explicitly state that it is mostly accurate in each paragraph (including intro + conclusion)?

Hi there! You can definitely do an integrated approach if you like, or even just one paragraph per poem sounds like it would be okay for you if you prefer ;D the accurately bit needs to be incorporated heavily in your response, intro/conclusions of each paragraph would be the best method. How you include it depends on your response - Do you want to totally agree? Do you want to say it isn't accurate at all? That bit is up to you :)

Hey!

I'm just in the process of writing the ending of my creative and was just wondering if you can switch from third person to first person?

My story follows a fragmented structure and I have used third person throughout the whole story but I feel like I need to write some of the ending in first person in order to really explicate my protagonist's feelings and journey of self discovery. I tried writing in free indirect discourse but got really stuck.

So do you think I can do that or is it just a no go?

Thanks!

I think it is a good idea actually, to inject some emotion into the ending! Make sure it serves a purpose for your Creative (sounds like it does), and make sure it is clear that it is a conscious decision. Make sure it doesn't sneak in anywhere earlier, and make it clear that you've started a new section with a ruled line or something similar ;D

Hey!

Can anyone recommend any AOS related texts I can use that would work well with The Motorcycle Diaries? I originally decided to use Divergent (it's basic, I know), but am trying to find something more sophisticated to use, however, can I also have some thoughts on Divergent?

Thank you!

Hey bud! Here is a list of other suggestions, but Divergent would be a good choice thematically. There is very obvious symbolism at play - Provided you would be willing to invest the time to find some interesting uses of filmic techniques (I'm sure it would be in there) I'm sure it would be a nice related text ;D

Hello~

Does anyone by any chance have a scaffold for discovery creative or any interesting writing prompts? I'm seriously struggling on writing a discovery story right now. Teachers have been telling me, WRITE WHAT YOU KNOW, but my life is horribly boring and I cannot think of anything to write about. Literally tried writing about myself forgetting to do extension history hw and discovering something interesting about it on the bus and it was just a really sad piece of writing. Another time, I tried writing a creative inspired by how my grandpa had to move to a nursing home. My teacher said it was pretty moving but my tutor was basically like- lol is this an UP fanfic so ._. Can you someone please provide some pointers?

Thank you so much~

Hello!
I was at the lectures at week and first off, THANK YOU FOR THEM BOMB.COM LECTURES!  But I was curious to know about integretad & semi integrated Essays, how would you structure it. And how many paragraphs for each?
-----------
Normally with my essay I would do:
Intro
First body; prescribed
Second; related & link to prescribed
Third; prescribed
Forth; related & link to prescribed
Conclusion
-----------
How is that any different?
Thank you!!

Hey, so for the integrated approach, there is heavy emphasis on the themes themselves rather than the text at hand. You discuss the similarities and differences in terms of how they discuss the overall idea of your paragraph.

So, you would approach it with an overarching comment on the exploration of a discovery concept. You then introduce your first text - usually the prescribed but not always - and then introduce your second text by discussing how the second text relates to the discussion of your idea. It should essentially be a longer paragraph, but the main focus lies in the comparison of ideas between the two texts and your theme. You switch between the two texts when necessary (remember to be specific with which text you're talking about).

This allows a more thematic approach to the module as your focus shifts to the ideas and concepts of the module. The number of paragraphs vary but usually you would have three concepts of discovery to discuss, and so three body paragraphs structured like this:

Intro
Concept 1 - discuss how both texts explore this notion. Switch between the two texts being careful you're concise with your language. Link back to the thesis.
Concept 2 - same as above.
Concept 3 - same as above.
Conclusion.

Hello~

Is there by any chance a powerpoint slide like "Standard January Lecture 2018- Presented by Emily Tyrrell" where theres a guide on how to do notes for Mod A-C. I found this powerpoint really useful in how to set out my notes for Discovery. I checked out the "Advanced English 2018- Presented by Emily Tyrrell" presentation but it doesn't have a note-taking guide like the one in the first presentation. Does anyone by any chance have a guide for doing Module A-C notes?

Thank you~

Hey,
What sort of analysis are you going for? For now, there are a few I can think of:

Tone - what sort of tone do the words "insufferable" and "unpardonable arrogance" give? How does it add to the meaning of the text, and the characters themselves? (I didn't do the text, so your analysis is based upon your interpretation).
Use of the indefinite pronoun - everyone - usually used for commonality amongst all things, people, and other non-specific objects. I'm not sure about the context in which this is appropriate but it can be used to diminish the value of the characters in the text.

Thank you so much!  :)

Those two presentations collectively are everything Emily presented in January (keep in mind the Advanced lecture slides were only an additional component, if you do Advanced you should be using both presentations) - What's there is there! It might be worth checking out slides from earlier lecture series though, could be more there :)
