Hellooo first post here!

I was reviewing my practice essay for Mod C (people and landscapes) for which the question was:
"How do composers represent the impact of people’s experience of landscapes on individual lives and the broader society?
In your response, make detailed reference to your prescribed text and ONE other related text of your own choosing."

The comments on my essay said I wasn't really addressing the 'broader society' aspect of the question in my analysis. Honestly, I don't understand what the impact of landscapes have on broader society? I'm currently doing Art of Travel so all the impacts of landscapes are on the individual who traverses these landscapes. I feel like im missing something in my understanding of the module...  :-\

Thanks yall  :)

I do People and Politics for Mod. C. not lanscapes, so I wouldn't really know...but here's me trying to be helpful and stuff so you can ignore my advice if you want! Take it with a grain of salt  ;)

So I think to connect your individual travelling landscape "lone wolf" scenario to "broader society," you can talk about how an individual who's travelling and learning all this great stuff has the potential to share it with the rest of society. They are building upon old knowledge and putting it up for the rest of us. Like map-makers, or captains of ships. They take broader society with them and bring something back for society as well. If that makes sense?

Hope that helps!  ;D

Ahhh thank you for your reply! Hmmm, I think I understand what you are getting at. In that case, I guess my analysis would look like quote+technique --> effect on individual --> individuals' effect on broader society. I think I'll stick with that for now considering how little time I have left until my Trials :'(
Btw, my friend suggested that the audience could be counted as 'broader society' but is that true? Im not sure if that would be accepted...

Hello again!
In my essay feedback, one of my comments were that I needed to 'work on the consistency of my argument'. What does that mean?

Hey!
I think it means that in some places your argument was lacking, while in some it was very strong. SO it fluctuated which broke the flow of your argument.
The way i interpret this is that you have to work on making some areas of your argument as strong as others so it is conscistently strong throughout your essay
"Live life like a pineapple. Stand tall, wear a crown and be sweet on the inside"

"May you grow up to be righteous; may you grow up to be true. May you always know the truth and see the lights surrounding you. May you always be courageous, stand upright and be strong"

"Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire"

Hey, I just want to add that it could also be about the consistency of what you're arguing - for example you could start off arguing one thing but then end up arguing the opposite accidentally.
I'd ask for more clarification about what it is about your argument is lacking consistency

This could work if you frame it that way! It's up to you to define 'broader society' the way that suits your argument ;D

Hey guys, what do you think of using Catcher in the Rye by J.D.Salinger as a ORT for discovery. My prescribed texts are Robert Frost's poems, my thinking was that isolation is a common theme in Catcher in the Rye and Frost's poems but while Catcher in the Rye isn't set in nature I would draw on how Holden is isolated within his landscape/nature like the characters in the poems. While the tuft of flowers in tuft of flowers was the catalyst for the mower, Holden's sister is his catalyst that allows him to connect with the people and landscape around him. Otherwise I was also looking at To Build a Fire as a backup/secondary ORT as its very similar to Frost's poems in terms of setting and theme. Any thoughts would be appreciated, cheers!!

Hi hi,
i just wanted to ask, that in an essay, does analysis of form and context have to be integrated within the other paragraphs or can it be in its own paragraph?

Hi,

I would say it is generally better to try and integrate form and context into your paragraphs. This way, it gives you more opportunity to flaunt your analysis to the markers, and enrich your arguments with these further considerations.

Having said that, it does depend on which essay it is for. I have seen some essays for Mod A where there is a specific paragraph for context (usually right after the intro). If having a separate paragraph is easier for you to present your ideas cohesively, then it could be a good idea to do this (and not just in mod a). You just have to be careful not to go overboard and run out of time for the other parts of the essay.

Hopefully this makes sense!  :)

Hey, from what I understand integrating form and context within your paragraphs is the way to go as it makes your essay more sophisticated rather than having a separate paragraph. Also form and context affect everything within a text as they are heavily linked to the author's purpose. If you integrate within all your paragraphs you will be able to show that you've considered form throughout the essay and not just as a separate thing.

Hey!

Does anyone know the technique for “A person has an opinion. It is only an opinion”.

For reference it’s commentary from Al Pacino’s LFR.

Thanks :)
