I have a similar question about cutting down words. I have to do a 5 minute speech for module C, so I can probably only write 800 words max instead of 1000 - 1100 which is what I have been doing for other essays. The teachers still seem to expect the same detail (and my teacher told us its not her job to cut out words for us
), but I don't know what I can cut out to achieve this time limit. Would it be ok to only have one slightly longer paragraph for my related text? Could I just use 2 quotes but use 2 techniques for the one quote or something like that to make my analysis more condensed? Any help or ideas would be appreciated!
Hey! Just spotted this question. Cutting words without cutting analysis is definitely a super difficult thing. One slightly longer paragraph for related is okay, but balance is a good thing if you can get it!
- Using two techniques for one quote is a great call, you should do it as often as possible
- Cut every possible bit of story/plot detail and character description, it is amazing how much the words can drop once this (totally unnecessary) stuff is axed!
- Be more colloquial, it is a speech after all! So instead of saying, "the composer's use of metaphor in this quote demonstrates the immense impact that discoveries can have on the individual," say, "Discoveries are a big deal! We know this, and we see it in the metaphor..." Use the medium as a way to trim words and add audience connection.
You are struggling with something that almost everyone struggles with, keep chipping away, you'll make it work I am sure
