Hey, zanibalh.

Great question!

1. You can definitely discuss the significance of an unexpected discovery and how that essentially affects the experiences of the main character(s). An event doesn't always go to plan (such as that of Motorcycle Diaries), and it is often the mistakes within an intricate plan that highlights the serendipitous nature of discovery.

2. This is a bit of a mouthful because it poses two different scenarios: first time discoveries and rediscoveries. I guess the best way you could attack this question is to highlight which one is more revealing within the text. If first time discoveries are more fruitful, how does a composer show that through the character's experiences?

Hopefully, this gives you some breadth to write! :)

Thankyou so much! Really appreciate it

Hey guys,
Reading over my creative, there's one part that is noticeably unsophisticated in comparison to the rest of my creative, to the extent at which it stands out. However I have no idea how amend it. The line is "A part of me wishes it ran, right now when it could." The "a part of me" makes me cringe, and I was wondering whether there's any higher level substitute I could use to express that feeling or if I should just remove that whole sentence?

Thank you!

Hey there :) I'm currently struggling to get enough words down in my English essays. I've heard that I need at least 800 to be able to get band 6, and I'm currently writing around the 725-50 words mark. I think the main problem is that I usually take about 10 minutes to plan and then do the introduction for each one.

Should I just try and get my plan and introduction down to 5 minutes which should give me time to get my essay up to 850 ish with an extra 5 minutes??

Hey again, I was also wondering, I have a memorised creative which I'm obviously planning on adapting on the day, but hypothetically, lets say didn't really adjust it to the stimulus at all, what's the highest mark I could get, since I'm still meeting most of the criteria, just not the stimulus part? Could you get 11/15 or higher?

Hey Caleb,
It depends on how much 'off' the stimulus your creative is really. Don't think the mark could be specified much as of now.
You don't necessarily have to have your creative match the stimulus as is, you could always find a metaphorical way of working around the stimulus.

Have a back up plan for a story that isn't much similar to the one you've prepared just in case! Always better safe than sorry :)

Hope this helps.
Goodluck!

Hey guys,

For mod A - I'm doing Wit & John Donne's poetry; what are the chances they'd specifiy a poem?

For mod B - I'm doing speeches; is there a possibility they'd repeat the speeches they'd already specified in previous years?

Thanks!

Tbh I don't think it sounds that unsophisticated. HSC markers often don't like overly-flowery creatives and appreciate moments of simplicity. But if you want some ideas, here ya go:

'My mind wishes...'
'A voice within me wishes...'
'"Run! Right now while you can" was beating in my mind'

 :) Hope this helps

I don't do the same mod A as you but for speeches, yes it's definitely a possibility. They could also not specify a speech at all. (basically be prepared for whatever happens)

Hi guys!!
I'm having a lot of trouble with Module B Speeches as my teacher taught it to us very briefly so I've had to pretty much teach myself! Can anyone give me any tips on writing a thesis statement for this module and what sort of aspects I should include?

Also, for Module C Representing People and Politics, can they specify a certain poem by W.H Auden or would I be fine in focusing on the ones I know best? Thanks so much :)

Hi...

For the speeches, you can often base your thesis specifically off the question, especially since a 'to what extent' question is common. E.g. for 2015 HSC Question:

Speeches have been described as ‘passionate and insightful responses to perceived injustices
in the modern world’.
To what extent does this perspective align with your understanding of the speeches set for study?

You could simply write "Speeches can be passionate and insightful responses to modern concerns about justice", maybe add a little more depth if you like.

For questions which require a more specific thesis, I generally intertwine aspects about the Mod B rubric into my thesis, e.g. rhetoric (only for speeches, though), textual integrity, audience, purpose, context, values etc.

Hope this gives you some ideas.  :)

The current one came out 2015 I believe because my text only goes back to that year. Not sure if the elective went back further though.

Hey, I personally think either works, just depends on your personal preference. A marker certainly won't mark you down if you use one over the other
