Was the syllabus for Modules also recently changed?? Either way, how likely are we to be asked a question like this haha

Two people who value your prescribed text in different ways and for different reasons are having a conversation.
Compose their conversation which should include consideration of the structure, language and ideas of the text. - 2002

Oh my goodness, I read this question the other days and freaked out! I'm pretty sure mod B is the only one where they would pull anything slightly tricky.

Yep you're definitely right, the syllabus changed recently. So some of the older questions aren't a good indication of what tomorrow will be. Definitely worth scanning over but definitely not worth stressing over  :)

Hi guys, not sure if this is the right place to ask this but could someone please help me find some nice techniques for these quotes from The Great Gatsby:
"No amount of fire or freshness can challenge what a man will store up in his ghostly heart" - i'm thinking imagery but i think that's too plain a technique.
"God sees everything... but Wilson stood there a long time, his face close to the window pane, nodding into the twilight" - not really sure on this one
Thanks in advance!

Hi I'm wondering if anyone can give me advice on Module B's speeches
Theres 7 of them and Im panicking because the mark I received was extremely low for trials (10/20) and i've never really liked them or understood how to structure a response for an essay as its such a different area.
I know four to some extent but the rest I have no clue on. Should I be worried that they'll prescribe a text? My teacher said if they do they commonly include an extract but after todays no visual for paper one I dont know what to believe?
help  :(

For Module C in this question: ‘Politics determine who has the power, not who has the truth.’   Do you think it'd be too much of a stretch to define truth as morality and principle, and then talk about how politics in the pursuit of power actually corrupt this truth?

For the first quote, something like natural imagery, or even metaphor for 'Ghostly heart'?

For the second quote, I'm not so sure. Potentially you can find some sort of allusion/symbolism type technique?

He plays the role of the Protagonist in Shakespeare's King Richard III :)

Hey! Definitely right place! The first one has alliteration in "fire and freshness," and that's a very juxtapositional/contrasting pair of words there too. "Ghostly heart" is a bit of figurative language too! :)

In the second, that ellipsis after "God sees everything" adds a nice bit of rhythm and accentuation, really pops that phrase for religious audiences. Besides that I can't spot a heap; Elyse and Lauren are better at this than me ;)

edit - soz for overlap Jakey  :P

I love that idea, if you set it up nicely that would work superbly (as long as it suits the question) ;D

I don't see anything wrong with that!  Just make sure you explicitly state this in your thesis and back it up throughout and I'm sure it'll be a great essay :)

Hey, how likely is it that they will specify a speech that just got introduced last year to the syllabus such as Lessing or Brookes?

Also, would a quote to Shakespeare in a drama be considered an intertextual reference, or a Shakespearean allusion?

Just some last minute help with identifying quotes (that seems to be all I've asked about here haha), this one is from Julius Caesar for module A.

"But I am as constant and true as the northern star"
"But Brutus says he was ambitious, and Brutus is an honourable man"

Thanks!

A few module B questions I have looked at ask you to examine two "episode's" or "extract's". What does this actually mean? Can I focus on a whole section of the text or does it have to be one chapter? My text is Cloudstreet!

Anyone that does or has done yeats for module b - do you think it would be alright to just go in with two poems analysed? Because that's all I have right now.
