Hi Ellyse

Im studying Yeats and for our trial we have to be prepared to write about one of 8 poems, do you have any good ways in which you would approach this porblem, would you try and favour study for texts you would rather write about hoping that you are given the option to write about your prefered poem or would you try and memorise as many quotes as possible for all the poem ?

My approach was to understand as much as I could about every single poem. Leaving a stone unturned could sabotage your entire essay - if you choose to ignore one poem and then it's tested tomorrow, then you've sold yourself short. Definitely best to have a crack at them all. In saying this, it's normal to have a favourite or two which you really do understand quite well - you'll possibly still get the chance to talk about this poem if it links well with the essay question. So work on your weakest points to get them up to a standard level, but don't feel as though you're wasting time by nailing home another poem or two - it could be very handy!

Hey!
I am studying for mod c and my two texts are Persepolis and BNW, however we are told to prepare a third text in case we are asked for TWO related texts, so I was just wondering if anyone knew any really short texts that I could use with my argument about language being a tool to achieve conformity?
Thank you!

Hmm. I will try doing that. Lol last night because I was pretty motivated to do English, I did a discovery essay (but I used the related text: Peter Skryznecki's Crossing the Red Sea) but! the ideas resonating from Tim Winton's Neighbours would be interesting to do as well. So I'll try writing another essay with the 'neighbours' short story tonight and see which one I prefer! :) Thanks Elyse!
The end may justify the means as long as there is something that justifies the end.

Hey! Remember you could always use your RT for Discovery if you are super stuck? My suggestion though would be V for Vendetta, it links really nicely to BNW :)

I'll list you a few dozen, they are for Discovery but many would work well elsewhere :)

Hi,

How would you recommend memorising quotes and structures for the modules by tomorrow? I have a shocking memory and also need to work on adapting my responses to the questions but does anyone have any advice?

Thank youu

I have my Paper 2 Adv English trial exam tomorrow, and I have just found out that they may ask for two related texts...
Would it be worth trying to prepare for another related as well? If so, does anybody have any ideas for a related that will be quick and easy to analyse? (my texts are Reynolds'  "Why Weren't We Told?" and Orwell's "Shooting an Elephant")
Thank you!

Hi! I was wondering if they give you an extract (such as last years MOD A HSC for W;t and Donne, a quote from each), how much do you need to refer to this in the response?

Hi! Just wondering if they give a screenshot of a scene from a movie, do I need to incorporate quotes from that scene or am I just analysing the shot they use and the film techniques in the image? Thanks!

Hey if Emily or Elyse or anyone could help me out I would really appreciate it!
In reference to Mod B, Emily gave me heaps useful info yesterday R.E discussing the texts enduring value and evaluating how successful the author/director has conveyed ideas. I'm just still a bit confused... does this form the basis of your argument based on what question you get? Eg. From the things my teacher has stressed in class, I have a feeling the CSSA Trial question for Mod B will be something along the lines of: How does Orson Welles represent the impact of loss through the moral decline of Charles Foster Kane... so does the basis of my essay turn to how loss/moral decline and its associated values have enduring values/ how well they are conveyed by welles?
Thank you, will really help because I am 100% fine for Mod a and c but B is a mystery for me! :)

Hey BK! I have put that quote down too... I can't think how its a specific literary technique ay? I am thinking if you refer to its word choice, especially when viewing it in the context it was written, it has a deeper meaning... e.g. the way she is pointing out equality between Rochester and herself would have been seen as breaking down societies norms and expectations and putting herself to the same standard as him, even though they are from different social classes? Do you think that would be enough tho to say it is her choice of words?!
if someone has an actual technique tho pls say!! ;D
