SCIENCE TO BIOMED CREDIT TRANSFER

Hi, I have received an offer from VTAC to study the Bachelor of Biomedicine for 2016. I was wondering if my subjects would be credited from Science 2015:

Chemistry 1
Chemistry 2
Physics Fundamentals
Biology of Cells and Organisms
Genetics and the Evolution of Life
Calculus 2
+2 Breadths

I was particularly wondering whether Calculus 2 would count for either Data Analysis or MAthematics for Biomed, as I do not intend on doing an engineering major.

In the event that I would have to pick up Biomed subjects that weren't credited from my science degree, how would this work. Would I overload or would I be given extra time to complete my degree?

Also, what is the advantage of doing a Biomed degree over science, it is really harder to get a good GPA in biomed than science??
Thanks

Biomedicine and Science at Melbourne are technically the same thing. I really don't see any reason why you'd want t transfer from Science to Biomed and risk losing some of your credits. Let's put it this way 'Biomedicine is basically Science for kids who want to do Medicine afterwards' - NOT because the course is harder or it's favoured by the admission committee of Med school but only because the course has been structured (with subjects and quota allocated accordingly) to make sure you have all the prerequisites for Medicine. the difficulties, if you chose the same/equivalent subjects as you would in Biomedicine, are the same. So my advice is, put the pride aside, and stay in Science. stay focused and do extremely well. get your prereqs done. and then nail whatever postgrad course you want to do. there's little to be gained, if any, from changing now.

I'm doing biomed as a second year right now and likewise I don't see the point for you to transfer into biomed. It's basically a glorified science degree, with a tighter cohort. But at the second year stage, there is only one core per semester (worth 25 credit points) and you do selective subjects that encompass virtually all subjects that you could choose as a science student. And to be frank, people who are looking for flexibility with their subjects should choose science anyway - unless you're aiming for med, which then makes not much difference in the first place (you still have to satisfy pre-reqs). As for GPA, I'd figure the difficulty would be just the same if you did science... with science you have a larger cohort and maybe a greater distribution of results, but the effort you put in to be at the top end would be the same as if you did biomed.
