Does anyone have any examples (or causes) of corruption in modern society?
Particularly smaller, more unnoticeable instances. I'm using these to form the basis of my context piece.
Thank you!!
What kind of corruption are you looking to explore? As in, the prototypical idea of corruption where someone is bribed to sacrifice their values or compromise the well-being of others? (e.g.
the way money is linked to American elections) or corruption in a more abstract sense, like how people become 'corrupted' by ideology and prejudice?
Taken from
this wikipedia page:"Forms of corruption vary, but include bribery, extortion, cronyism, nepotism, gombeenism, parochialism patronage, influence peddling, graft, and embezzlement. Corruption may facilitate criminal enterprise such as drug trafficking, money laundering, and human trafficking, though is not restricted to these activities. Misuse of government power for other purposes, such as repression of political opponents and general police brutality, is also considered political corruption."
If you need an evidence base for your context piece, think about what you're trying to say in relation to the prompt (i.e. work from your contention downwards, if possible) and it should be easier to narrow down the kinds of stories/ events/ ideas you could explore
