Hey Guys

I'm just curious to know but what are some sample extended response questions they could ask in a prelim chem exam? (with a marking criteria)

Thanks

Hi there!

Here's a list of possible areas they could test long responses (sorry i dont have crteria)

Chemical Earth:
- industrial separtion processes on mixtures (ie. properties of mixture used in separation, products of separation and their uses, issues of waste from these processes)

Metals:
-different metals through history and their uses including alloys and the reason for the production of alloys (properties)
-why they are more metals available to use now than 200 yrs ago
-separation processes, chemistry and energy considerations involved in the extractions of copper from ore
-steps to recycle aluminium

Water:
-significance of different states of water on Earth

Energy:
-role of the production of high energy carbohydrates from co2
-properties and uses of the different allotropes of carbon
-conditions under which explosions occer and the need for safety

Hope this helped :)

Thanks a lot :D

For water, could they possible ask you a question on thermal pollution and all that?

Thanks again  ;)

hi!
my suggestion would be to maybe learn just a brief outline of the possible environmental issues because its not really a significant topic in water. I remember last year i didnt get tested on it :)

Goodluck!

Thanks again  ;D

Although it is quite early to be thinking about this, what are some possible extended repsonses they could give you in HSC chemistry? (including the option topics-e.g. Industrial chemistry)
