I'm slightly stuck on this essay topic and don't really know what to write. Please share some points for this prompt :)
‘The autocratic ideas and leaders of tsarism were totally opposite to the Marxist ideas of the revolutionary leaders. It was impossible for both to exist in the same society.’
Discuss this view, providing evidence to support your answer.
thank you! :)

Hey Brooke,
You may have already written your essay by now, but I'll give you my perspective of the topic.
* Tsarism provided a strict hierarchical structure, rather than being the true Marxist idea of 'classlessness'. The autocracy had established classes and in that sense was fairly rigid. The goal of Marxism was to eliminate the class system.
* Inequality. Marxism argued that all members of a society should be inherently equal, whereas Tsarist society involved stark inequality. The ruling class (0.5% of the population) had much of the wealth.
* Last point would be the perceived exploitation of workers. Imperial Russia exploited workers with twelve-hour shifts, appalling factory conditions and dangerous environments. Marxism aimed to liberate workers from an oppressive regime (i.e. Tsarist Russia)
That's my 2 cents, anyway.
