The civil war was to do with the Battle of Phillipi in 42BC when Brutus and Cassius' who were Julius Caesar's assassins were defeated by Mark Antony and Octavian (Augustus). This marked the end of the republican party as most had died fighting. Octavian was able to avenge the death of his adoptive father and the empire was divided amongst the triumvirs. Lepidus received Africa, Antony received Gaul and parts of the East, he wanted some of the Ptolemies' wealth whilst Cleopatra wanted to ensure she would maintain her independent rule over Egypt. Octavian took Spain and Sardinia and returned to Italy. Hope that helped.

Just also be careful the you mention the right civil war, as Augustus was involved in a number of them before he seized power. He first fought Mark Antony, defeated him, then fought Brutus and Cassius with the help of Mark Antony, defeated them, and then fought Mark Antony again!
