Revs as a 3/4? (vs Further Maths)

(1/1)

pipsimon4:
I'm in year eleven, deciding 3/4 subjects and am thinking about Revs. My other subjects are German, Classics, Psych, Lit, and currently I'm tossing up between Further Maths, and Revs.
1) What is Revs like as a workload?
2) For VCE, would it better to have Further Maths, than a Revs and a full humanities load?
3) What are the benefits of doing Revs, and how hard is it to get a good study score in it?

Thanks  :)

Interesting dilemma. I was in a similar situation but decided to drop one of my other subjects (lit) so I could do revs and further LMAO
1) revs has a very high workload. I dare say it has the highest workload out of any vce subject. Especially if you want to smash it and get 45+. It was also hands down the most fun subject I did in vce and also the most rewarding with a pretty clear effort-grade correlation. It takes a fair bit of time BUT it is fun to study if you like history.

theres mostly just a lot of reading and gaining background knowledge. If you're the type of person that browses Wikipedia when you are bored and particular historical wikis then you will love revs.

2) ehhh. there are a few things that should help you decide this, in general though we need some info about your grades/how you think you'll do next year/your atar goals & course goals.
For example if you want to do something that requires a really high atar like law/med at Monash, and you are already getting A+'s in your sacs and are a hard worker, and it's likely you will get in with revs, I would do revs because it's fun, but there's an argument to do further for a break from hums. If you will struggle to get into the course you want based off your current atar predictions I would recommend you to do further. Getting a 50 in either subject is probably s similar amount of work but getting mid/low 40s in further like what I got took 1 quarter the effort than my high 30's in revs LOL
If your dream course has an atar that you should easily clear by like 10 points I would do revs because it's really fun.

3) I think I answered 3) in 2) LOL but basically if you think reaching your dream course will be a reach and you are not a high achiever that can handle big workloads and do really well, definitely do further. Your effort to grade correlation at every point on the curve will be higher in further

Good luck

Hello!

It's really just up to personal preference.

Further is by far my easiest subject, for that reason it is the one i put the smallest amount of work into. But I also don't really like it. In saying that, I'm okay at maths so i have been able to achieve good scores.

Revs is my favourite subject. It is the most content heavy subject, and its probably the one i put the most work into. But it is very interesting and very rewarding. You learn so many great things. While i  love revs, some people in my class don't really enjoy it due to types of essay writings/document analysis type work you have to do.

You should look at the courses you want to get into and its pre-requesets. Maths will be a pre-req for a few different courses (e.g.. teaching)

If it isn't a pre-req for the type of course you want, then do whichever you think sounds more appealing.

Also, in terms of study score, you can achieve well in any subject if you put in the work. But also, year 12 isn't all about the number you get at the end of the year, you get to learn some cool things that interest you.
