Further Maths Exam

Hi everyone,
If you have seen the sample further maths exam it says that we have to do everything in pen which is simply outrageous because why would you do a maths exam in pen when you're bound to rub things out. It is unpractical since we can't bring white out into the room either. Is anyone else annoyed about this as I am ?

This is completely normal for tests and exams.

I would never rub out/erase any working out, because you can still get marks for working. Just a single red line through your "incorrect" working is all that is needed. You can always use extra graph paper provided if needed.

I don't find using pen outrageous in any way whatsoever. It forces you to cross out your work instead of vanish it, where they can still see what you got rid of anyway. I don't know about the VCE, but in the HSC examiners actually read work that has been crossed out.

Can vouch, at least in the HSC sense, you may get paid for crossed out working provided it is legible

Further (hehe), do you know if your exams are scanned? If they are, then pencil doesn't show up as well as pen, so your work is far more readable with pen

Pretty sure this is the reason why they don't allow pencil (among other things). Can't you just find somewhere else to do rough working? You could always leave a bit of blank room at the back of your bound reference if you need to scribble until you're happy with the working out to present on the exam.

Erm I did my exam in pencil and it turned out fine sooo...

Just make sure it's thick lead if u must. Tbh i didnt even know it had that written on the front page...

and it's mainly cos
1. papers may be scanned and it's more legible to a computer
2. It reduces the risk of haveing something  rub away or smudge like when the paper is closed and there is a sheet on top of the writing, pencil sometimes reduces in colour, and if it's really light it makes it illegible, illegibility=no marks

Since there has been a change to the study design (the introduction of the Recursion and Financial Modelling module), VCAA want to give Further Math students an indication of the types of questions that could be asked. As for the other modules of the sample paper, these are largely, if not all, questions from previous exam papers.
