What's your prescribed text? Also are you a 2017 or 2016 student? If you're a 2016 student you probably don't want to be learning any new related texts that are too long with only 2 days to go, so sticking to a short poem or image might be your best bet :)
Either way though, these are some related that worked for me/my friends:
  • An Idiot Abroad (docu-comedy)
  • The Perks of Being a Wallflower (book or movie)
  • Juno (movie)
  • One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (book or movie)
  • Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind (non-fiction book - I wish I had read this before picking relateds because I would have loved to have done this!
  • Infidel : My Life (non-fiction book - concerning a Muslim woman's experience
  • The Happiest Refugee (non-fiction book - concerning a refugee's experience

Stuck in a pickle with 2 days left before the HSC?
—Go with a short story like The Rabbits by Shaun Tan and John Marsden, or an artwork if you are good at them (such as "A Nude Descends A Staircase" or something like that)

HSC 2017, and have plenty of time to think about it?
—Don't worry too much your teacher will go through a list of recommended related texts and then its just a matter of googling and seeing which one mashes well with your prescribed text.

Tim Winton's short story Distant Lands, or his short story Neighbours (found in the anthologies: Scission and Minimum of Two) work wonderfully! :)

I used the book thief by Mark Zusak, my paragraphs were on the discovery of the power of words, and the good/evil nature of humanity

I love poetry for related texts, because you can find short, easy to analyse ones. there's a lot out there on Wilfred Owen's poems, and if you don't want to use one that's on the reading list, they've taken Mental Case off (it was part of the collection before the most recent changes), so there's plenty of analysis available and it's so easy to link to discovery. http://www.learningandwriting.com have a discovery analysis of it and you can probably find lectures and discussions of it on YouTube. I second the Shaun Tan suggestion - any of his picture books are great and super easy to analyse for discovery. You could go for a webseries, like Green Gables Fables, Classic Alice or The Lizzie Bennett Diaries (or whatever you usually watch, those are the ones that come to mind), or a song (but if you choose a song you need to include comment about the music choice, not just the lyrics).

That's awesome ejean! Thanks so much for sharing. Please let me know if you need any help finding anything around the forums. It's so good when you find a text that has lots of support material online, it makes studying the text independently that much easier.
