related texts for discovery?
vyca:
I used the book thief by Mark Zusak, my paragraphs were on the discovery of the power of words, and the good/evil nature of humanity

I love poetry for related texts, because you can find short, easy to analyse ones. there's a lot out there on Wilfred Owen's poems, and if you don't want to use one that's on the reading list, they've taken Mental Case off (it was part of the collection before the most recent changes), so there's plenty of analysis available and it's so easy to link to discovery. http://www.learningandwriting.com have a discovery analysis of it and you can probably find lectures and discussions of it on YouTube. I second the Shaun Tan suggestion - any of his picture books are great and super easy to analyse for discovery. You could go for a webseries, like Green Gables Fables, Classic Alice or The Lizzie Bennett Diaries (or whatever you usually watch, those are the ones that come to mind), or a song (but if you choose a song you need to include comment about the music choice, not just the lyrics).

That's awesome ejean! Thanks so much for sharing. Please let me know if you need any help finding anything around the forums. It's so good when you find a text that has lots of support material online, it makes studying the text independently that much easier.
