Is it really bad if my creative context piece fits my context (identity and belonging) but doesn't really fit the book I'm studying? Help!

Hi everyone,
I've never used this forum before and don't really know how it works, so hopefully this makes sense!!
For Section B of the exam, my teacher has encouraged us to pre-write pieces and then re-write them out in the exam. She recommended I didn't do the pieces I did in my SACs and instead rewrite a new piece to fit the context better. I've written a piece surrounding identity and belonging, however it does not fit Summer of the Seventeenth Doll... pretty much at all. The concepts of the play we studied are there but the characters and setting and stuff are completely different.. is this too risky?
Please help!

:)

no matter how good a piece, if theres not a decent enough link to your text , it wont score too highly. i believe if theres little to no link- max youd be at is 6/10 or so? post it up on the forum submissions for english and someone can comment on it :)

You must link to your text.
But you also must link to the PROMPT. Prewritten responses will not do this unless you are extremely lucky. It is okay to have idea of the kind of things you might talk about and have different ideas and passages you could adapt to different prompts. SO, yes there must be clear links between your piece and the text, but I believe the fact that your teacher is trying to tell to simply write out pre-prepared pieces in the exam is a bigger problem.

Like sinatra expressed, context is essentially discussing a prompt while also utilising the studied text. Look at the criteria for context. English assessors strongly discourage pre-prepared and formulaic responses. Therefore, I urge to go against your teacher's advise, since they won't be the ones marking your exam. Instead, I think you should aim to understand critical ideas of the text. Pay close attention to ideas that you can include in a range of topics. Practice and apply them to different prompts.
